dragon mutations?|dragon colors that aren't ebing

Yeah, I'm bored and feel like showing off a few colors I've created over the year (yes, singular) that aren't already in use on WoP. *squee* Those that are already in use here are as follows: Snow, Bone, Ice, Pearl, Topaz, Ruby, Emerald, and Spring.

Stone: Male only. Their hide is a sandy gold to brown, though can at times be a stony gray. Long of leg, they are excellent for fighting thread on the ground. Their wing membrane is always a cream color, no matter what shade the body may be. Stones have many spines running their body, and a lethal barbed tail. Not as feirce in temperment as they look, and very intelligent.

Coral: Very large kings, only a little smaller than ambers. Their color is a mix of shades of both red and blue, usually soft ones though. They are more red to the front, and slowly fade to a very pale blue. Their wings are red near the base and front, but turn blue as they go back. Large wingspan, they are fast and agile, though not always the smartest of kings. Impress male only.

Magma: Red-gold to red-orange hides are the most defining trait of these males. Their hide looks as if it's got trails of magma running over it, hence their name. Spined backs and tails make it a pain to fight, but are good protection. Long of body and even longer of tail, they are agile fliers, and proud to show it. few have ever impressed, and the few that have are creatures of malice. Their mine's are often destined for a dark, cruel path in life, so be happy if they don't impress. Roughly the size of a healthy brown, but the agility of a green. ((These are my babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I adore these nasty little brutes.))

Moon: Pale, silvery hides with dark swirls and craters make up this dragon's hide. Intelligent and calm, the very last to get into a fight. They are slightly larger than a healthy blue. Their tail is spaded, and they have two spiralling horns from their temples. A fin-like ridge runs from the back of their skull to their tail, breaking occassionally on the back. They are female, and impress either gender.

Ebon: Very similar in size to a black, but their personality is the exact opposite.Calm, well mannered dragons, who are very intelligent and patient. They make excellent wing-leaders, and are stable, sturdy fliers. Their hides are black, with irridescent shades running over their wings and legs, and a gem-like sheen over their entire body. There is no dount in the differences between Black and Onyx in appearance. Impress mainly male, though if a female has a good mind they will take her. Will fly anything, though the only Queens they catch are smaller Diamonds.

Fall: Blue-sized males, they are the male counterparts of the Springs. Their coloring is a lovely shade of mixed browns, reds, oranges, and yellows. Thier heads are generally the darkest part of them, and their wings a slightly lighter shade. Their legs are almost always yellow, a rich hue of fallen leaves. The rest of their body can range anywhere in the spectrum of the colors seen on the leaves once they've fallen off the trees in fall. They are incapable of speaking aloud, no croon, warble, trill, bugle, or anything of the such can be uttered by one, and rely entirely on telepathic communication.

Summer: These are very happy dragons, who adore the heat and love to play in water. Green-sized, with very cheery hides of blues, greens, and yellows. The first one hatched looked almost as though someone had painted on him a summer scene at the beach, but only when he was stretched out on his side. Where the colors fall on them matter not, but they always have all three colors.

Winter: Very proud, stoic dragons, who would rather look down on the world than speak. Very bleak shades of white and blue, with a very rare bit of black thrown in. Their size is generally that of a Blue, and they are male or female, Impressing almost only females of similar personalities. They rise only once every three months, and they never claim a weyrmate for more than a week.

Prism: Their hatchings are always interesting, and while they look like someone splattered them with dyes, as they age the colors soften, and become very pastel with a faint gem-like sheen about their bodies. They are Gold-sized, and clutch about the same. They are the true mutation of a Gold, their colors off, but size, attitude, and clutch-size are all identical.

Brass: This color looks, in their hue, like a Gold who's been polished, and then coated with glass. Sleek, shiny, reflective gold hides, with sizes similar to the Golds, at their hatchings, many mistake them as such. However, this is the male version of a Gold in every way, shape, and form. They are intelligent dragons, by far one of the brightest, of all Pern.

These dragons are pending, meaning they will most likely be around and up for Impression in the next clutch if enoug people like em, so keep you're fingers crossed.


Mimics: A relatively new breed of dragons, these beasts are born entirely blind and genderless with impossibly see through hides-one could literally see the pulsing heart of this dragon as well as every vein that connects back to the organ. It is impossible for an Impression to occur as soon as these dragonets hatch, because their eyes have to adjust and the lids gradually peel away from their sealed state. Once this occurs, the first clutchmate the Mimic looks on imprints itself in its mind. The dragon's gender is decided from this, and the necessary changes in the body begin to take place almost instantly. The second thing the dragonet finds about the next dragon he/she sees, usually looking to an older dragon in the stands, decides the dragon's hide coloring or, at least some of it. The outline of the dragon, the very edges of his/her wings, tail and claw tips, and any location where a joint is, takes that coloring the instant the color is registered. The eyes, too, take this shade, and never swirl another hue. The remainder of the beast's hide is still frighteningly see through, and will remain so for the rest of its life. Only then, once gender and hide color has been decided, does the creature look to his/her Impressing siblings, watching each choose their Mine before looking over the candidates and finding the most stable of the group. Sexual preference plays no part in Impression, nor does gender, obviously. Once Impression occurs, the relatively quite and, so it would seem, intelligent beast shows its true colors: Mimics are terrible to bond with unless one is very strong of will, those chosen for queen and king candidates usually are taken by Mimics when no queen is present in the clutch. These dragons are impossibly possessive and jealous and, as such, quite violent when need be. With a fierce sense of thought that when something is its, that something has little chance of ever being allowed away from the Mimic's sight. Females to choose Mimics to fly or males willing to catch Mimics are indeed brave individuals, because they wont ever be able to escape this dragon's impossible, irrational tyranny. They grow to the size of a rather large Brown or small Bronze, and will never fly a queen.

i recently got the idea for these, and i can't resist posting it.

Lead
Lead dragons can hatch either gender, and Impress either gender indescriminately. They are small green to middling/large blue size, and often have brown-like proportions. Their hides are a dull medium gray, darker and without the metallic sheen that silvers possess.
Leads are slow-witted dragons, not easy to teach. They are close-minded, rebellious, judgmental, ill-tempered, misanthropic, jealius, and generally unpleasant. Not very dangerous, since underneath the arrogance they are quite cowardly.
They often hatch as eggtwins out of a king-sized egg; the probability is roughly six or seven out of ten. When this happens, the two hatchlings usually split up and Impress opposite gender candidates, cregardless of the dragon's gender.
It is unwise to put a lead in the same wing as a dragon equally stubborn or truculent, because the lead will inevitably get into trouble in some way.

Illusion [the original version, not the tweaked BSW version]
Illusions have deep, velvety black hides, with a glossy metallic silver sheen over their skin. They are roughly gold-sized, and Impress only males.
Illusions are cunning, manipulative and mischievous, loving to play pranks but always having enough maturity to know when it's time to stop. They are also quive observant and intelligent. They can be a bit petulant when they don't get their way, and are uncannily good at getting out of trouble.
The most striking feature of these very rare kings is their hides. Though the silver-sheened black isn't unduly unusual, they have an extra trick up their sleeves. Illusions can change the color of their hide. It takes a long time for this skill to be honed to any about of proficiency, and they have to be trained to do it. At first they can only manage splashes of one color across parts of their bodies, but as they get better they can cover more of the black and add more colors, until a very skilled illusion could send a veritable rainbow of colors dancing across his hide.
Only up to three illusions ever existed at any point in time, being very rare dragons indeed.

Blood
bloods were the original version of Eden's cyans -- they're pretty much the same, but with different hides. i fell in absolute love with these little monsters when K'dran was given one at a Hatching. Necro is still hanging around as part of K'dran's clan of dragons. XD
Bloods' hides have a dark, dried-blood maroon base color, with splotches of dull black dappling their tiny bodies. Their hides are rough to the touch: not quite like some cyans' razor-sharp scales, but bumpy and uncomfortable to keep one's hand on for long.
Bloods are lanky and out-of-proportion, with monstrously huge hooked talons and three forks in their tail, instead of a normal dragon's bifurcated tail-tip. They also have oversized head-knobs: more like an amber's horns. Their fangs are huge as well, and sometimes their upper canines can resemble saber-fangs.

Hello. Meet the Spirit, a dragon I am still fleshing out as one of the Skrull mutations. I'm posting it here for Mittens to have a look like she asked, and so I coudl get some feedback from the others. Take a look:

Spirit: The Spirits are the next rarest dragon born in Skrull, and the second most fearsome. They come in three varieties, Avatar, Light and Thought; defined by which of the abilities they have. Spirits are very small, growing in body only to the size of a runner. Despite this, they still have the inexplicable ability to fly no matter the weight of the person on them or their saddlebags; this ability has not been examined in earnest. The exception to this is the Avatar Spirit, which is technically bigger. Their scales are multifaceted like their eyes, and so their hide is constantly swirling with colour. Each one starts out looking the same, and they vary slightly in appearance as they age.

The Light Spirits end up with an uneven, almost crystalline appearance, which is necessitated by their powers. This is caused by the same resin as normal Skrullumbrans with a slightly different chemical composition, making it reflective. Thought Spirits stay looking just as they did when they start, as do the more normal Spirits. Avatar Spirits’ appearance is linked directly to their power.

The powers possessed by every Spirit regardless of type, and by the ones who aren’t categorised by extra power, are thus: A degree of telekinesis but not on any objects larger than themselves; a distinct breed of ‘telepathy’ which lets them read an area rather than a person, feeling impressions from the land and witnessing events that happened there in the past; Finally, they can emit light from their scales to make themselves shine brightly. This light is absorbed beforehand and merely released from captivity within them. These powers are the basis of the more advanced forms.

The Avatar Spirit is advanced in the telekinesis, being able to lift or move objects up to ten times their weight. They are called as such because they take the cast-offs from the stone masons, and the shards of the Skrullumbrans shed armour and craft it around themselves in a dragon-shaped ‘shell’. If the shell is broken through, they are very vulnerable. Their main weakness is a sense of invulnerability that pervades them when the shell is in place. There are seven of these.

The Thought Spirit is more powerful with the ‘telepathy’, to the point where they can feel the lay of the land just by thinking it. They extend their minds over great distances, reading feelings and impulses from land and living creature alike. They don’t read actual thoughts, more feelings and impressions which they can use to guess what the people are thinking. The can examine the texture of an area from a distance and thus know what it looks like, a talent they use to go Between with pinpoint accuracy, although they are prone to taking a long time to decide anything. There are five of these.

The Light Spirit is the most feared of the three Spirit types, and the rarest. It absorbs light as much as it can, eats vigorously to maintain energy levels. It also chews firestone and combusts it internally to absorb the heat like a huge battery. The outcome is incredibly beautiful and completely terrifying. They shoot beams of energy from the reflective ‘panels’ on their body, which appear as curving beams of multicoloured light. They move at a rapid pace, but are dodgeable from a sufficient distance. Their power also lessens with length, but at a closer range they burn horrifically. There is only one of this type, and for good reason.
