Weyr:
Talune.
Name:
Full name: Hayate. Shortened: H'yate.
Gender:
Male.
Sexuality:
Hetero.
Rank:
Redrider; Wingrider of Celestial Promise & Wingrider of Misted Reason.
Age:
Twenty-five turns.
Appearence:
(No, his hair is not really that red... |3)
Details;
Hair, Eyes & Skin - As seen above, H'yate is one of the rare people on Pern who have red hair (though it's definitely not neon red, also as seen above). It's more of a darker color, similar to his Dragon's hide, though with a bit of rusty-coppery-brown to it.
His eyes are close to the same green, however. Brilliant, vibrant, deep, almost unnaturally so, they tend to draw people in at the rare times that he fully looks you in the face. They're they eyes of someone who people say have an 'old soul.'
His skin is normalish... not tanned, not pale, just normal. He has a few scars here and there, plus one horrible Thread-score one, almost in mirror of his Dragon's.
It runs from just below his knee, twisting up his side and chest and ending at the middle of his shoulder blade. Luckily his score isn't nearly as thick or deep as Hibikith's was, or he wouldn't have survived it...
One of his arms also has a scar on it, though this is a different sort. It's a nasty burn scar, covering from the middle of his forearm to the middle of his bicep. He recieved it when he first learned of Hibikith's flaming problem; the Dragon suddenly burped up flames two hours after the Weyrling lesson for learning to chew Firestone.
Body Build, Height & Clothing - H'yate is built just like a human version of a Red Dragon; lithe and agile. He's slender and quite quick, with scarily accurate and swift reflexes.
His height is about 5'10, give or take.
The clothing he wears are fair of quality, but nothing fancy. He cares very little for dressing up, even for times such as Gathers. He wears practical clothes, going with the weather and what he'll be doing for the day, and cares little what others would think of his scars when he wears shorter clothes.
Other - H'yate is a thief, a skill retained from his younger days. He can pick pockets, sneak into homes, lift things from crowded Gather stalls... All manner of things. He no longer uses this skill (except for the odd situation that may call for it, but that doesn't happen but once in a blue moon), but does keep this ability sharp by doing other, more innocent things that use the same talents. Never know when you might need it... Plus, to be able to be a good thief, your reflexes in general need to be honed, so that helps with a lot of life's needs.
Personality:
H'yate shares several traits with his Dragon; he's painfully honest, though he has more tact about it, he does what is asked of him the best to his ability, and he believes things will happen as they are meant to, and always happen for a reason, whether or not you can see it at the time, or see the right reason at the time.
That's where most of the similarities end, though.
He does have that strong curiosity that draws Crimsons to their bondeds, but he is very cautious about it, due to his growing up. He always is eager to know a little bit more, but he doesn't push it as much as he wants too.
He's very, very quiet, silent, and observant. He prefers to be alone, excepting a few people / creatures (his Fire-Lizards, for example), and though he can deal well and diplomatically with others, he really does not like to. He is usually polite to everyone, even those he does not like. He doesn't enjoy creating scenes.
He's not a people person, and a lot of that does have to do with how he was raised, but it's also in his nature. He's like that to the point of being anti-social.
He has a great deal of determination and strength of will, is excellent at strategic planning, and enjoys puzzles. He's rarely bored, always thinking about something, always seeing things at every direction he can find.
He's not an overly happy person, but he is content enough with his current lot in life. He prefers not to dwell on the past, but he does learn from it as best he can - though he doesn't always remember the lessons in time to put them to use. He's always been very mature for his age, even when he was just a little kid.
He doesn't quite think he's pessimistic. He calls himself a 'realist.' He tries to view things realistically, and is not one for daydreaming, and will not go out on a limb for something that he thinks there's not much chance of him getting.
He is kind of a pessimist, though, really.
History:
Father - Unknown.
Mother - Unknown.
Siblings - Unknown.
H'yate did not have it easy in his first years.
He grew up in a rather cold, unhappy foster home in Zyjax Hold. His foster parents and siblings, none of whom he counts as family, were never abusive in any way to him or each other, but their caretakers / keepers (he privately uses those words rather than 'father' or 'mother') held their herding business above all else, and kept the children only as unpaid hands around the place.
So, perhaps there was a form of abuse going on.
Of course, they kept the appearance of an at least mildy happy group whenever they had visitors or were in public (the herder's wife loved her image above all else). H'yate never knew a real family relationship, only that of workers.
Eventually he got quite tired of it and ran away, taking the little he owned (and some things that he didn't, including some food, marks and a runner) with him.
As he traveled (toward Nusa Hold, which was being constructed at this time), he went along beaches, catching fish (he wasn't very good at that), shellfish, and other little edible critters to suppliment his food supply.
That was when he came upon a nest of Fire-Lizard eggs, quite by accident. He nearly lead his runner over the top of them and crushed them, and would have if the Golden mother of the nest hadn't swooped down and gave him what-for.
Fortunately, his runner was one of the more calm ones. He still had a time getting the poor thing to calm down as it bolted, but managed not to get too far off course.
That night he tied the runner up and snuck back to where he remembered the Clutch being. Who didn't want the chance to have their own Fire-Lizards, really?
He somehow managed to do it without calling the Gold's wrath down on him. Thankfully, the eggs were quite hard, which meant that they would hatch soon. He took only two, thinking that that may be the number he would be able to look after - he remebered hearing about the voracious appetites that the little creatures had, especially for their first few sevendays of life.
So, he made his way to Nusa Hold, with a runner and two Fire-Lizards in tow.
When he got there, he sold his runner for some much-needed marks, hoping to settle in somewhere. He was still young, but old enough to work as an apprentice... Perhaps, be it Faranth's will, luck would find him.
And it would, but not for a while...
Nusa quickly started rotting, starting at the core, and H'yate was there to witness it all and bear his own portion of the effect. Life was being hard on him. No one seemed to want to take in a homeless boy who didn't have a scrap of credit or reference to his name as an apprentice, and his personality didn't really help him much, even though he did try...
His marks ran down quickly. It took him a little time, but he changed his perspective on life completely, and did what he could to keep going - he turned to thievery, mostly focused on the more corrupt, nasty people who frequented the Hold.
There was a certain rush that came with a successful haul, a challenge in keeping appearances and pretending, keeping others from becoming suspicous... His Fire-Lizards helped out a lot, too, after he trained them some. And he had independance, and could do whatever he liked.
But H'yate didn't feel quite right with this life. Even though he only took from the people who probably deserved it, he didn't like the fact that he was still taking from people.
And then, something changed.
H'yate had always stayed away when Dragonriders came, taking advantage of the fact that nearly everyone in the Hold ran to meet them and see the Dragons to do pull off more risky thefts. It was especially empty when it was Searchriders who came.
It was a day such as this when H'yate was slinking away that someone snagged him unexpectedly, scolding him for trying to get away when the Searchriders were here, and dragging him to the group of young people that the Dragons Search through to find promising Candidates.
A bit shocked that he'd been caught, and irritated at what he was sure was a waste of time (how could he be what was needed in a Rider, honestly), he stood as far back as he could, hoping that it would all be over quickly and he could slip away...
And then he got quite a shock when he was picked.
His life had taken an extremely strange turn, and H'yate wasn't sure he liked it, but... he couldn't deny he felt a little bit of excitement, despite the fact that he tried to be realistic about it all. Who said he would Impress? He was just a runaway, an urchin, a random kid who stole what he needed and lived in a tiny, abandond house that needed repairs frequently (luckily stuff he could do).
H'yate really didn't expect much, but was glad of the free room and board. And excellent food. He mostly kept to himself, effortlessly and expertly dodging attempts to draw him into Weyr life. He had always been a bit of a loner, even when at Zyjax Hold.
And then the Hatching - the first one he'd ever witnessed in his life.
And he Impressed one of the first Dragons to break shell; Red Hibikith.
Pets:
A Bronze and a Blue Fire-Lizard.
Bronze Tyrre[/u]
Tyrre is a rather ungraceful Bronze. He's a bit of a klutz for a Fire-Lizard, forever knocking into stuff, tipping things over, clobbering people, flying into things, ect. But he's really quite adorable, despite it, which is good, because that's how he gets out of trouble. He's rather sneaky.
His hide is colored by completely random swirls and patches in varying sizes of pretty much every shade of bronze there is.
Blue Akaio[/u]
Akaio is so calm and unshakeable that it worries H'yate sometimes. Nothing seems to make him excited, not even food. He does everything on his own time. He's not really lazy, nor is he lethargic, just... unflappable. It's kind of strange. It's like he missed out on growing the instinct that provides fear, nerves or energy.
He's a pale sky-blue, with bits of a whitish-blue tipping his tail, feet and wings, and navy blue wing membrane.
------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------
Dragon Name:
Hibikith.
Dragon Color:
Red (Crimson).
Age:
Seven turns.
Personality:
Hibikith, despite (or perhaps to counter-balance) his Rider's quieter nature, is 'the life of the party' when he wants to be.
Which is a lot of the time.
Hibikith loves attention, and loves doing or saying things at random (and in different situations), just to see how others will react. He doesn't seem to have the same view on speaking to humans other than his Rider as most Dragons do, either - he'll talk to anyone who is interesting to him.
He's not nearly as cautious or sombre as Crimsons usually are, but his impulsiveness makes up for that entirely.
He never plans anything. Never. He always does and says exactly what he thinks, no matter the situation, even if what he has to say or do may make things worse.
It's not that he doesn't care... no, he just firmly believes that everything happens for a reason and that it'll all work out fine. Or, at least, how it was supposed to. Sometimes he takes this to an extreme, though whether or not it's bad depends on what's happening at the moment.
Hibikith never shirks his duties or tries to wiggle out of trouble, however. He's incredibly loyal, and his honesty, more often than not, cements his relationships. You can always count him not to hide anything from you, though his outgoing-ness can scare some away...
Appearence:
Hibikith is a typical Red in appearance.
He's lithely and agilely built, with the usual deep bloody red hide color. His limbs are all perfect size for him, nothing out of proportion either way. He's about twenty meters in size. There's not much to say.
One of his two oddities is that he doesn't react to Firestone quite the way as other Dragons do. His body doesn't process it as quickly, so he has to chew some about two hours before Fall. On the upside, Firestone lasts him longer than other Dragons - his body doesn't process as much at a time, but still produces the same amount of flame.
As for his other physical flaw; Hibikith has a long, thick, terrible strip of Thread-score scarring, starting from his lower right hindquater that twists around his body, dipping below his wings, across his ribcage, and up to his shoulder. It starts very thick on his leg, but gradually shrinks down thinner as it goes.
He got a scar this strange because of how he reacted when it happened. He got this score the very first time they flew to fight Thread; he was inexperienced and panicked when it happened, twisting and turning in the air for a crucial moment before going Between. His writhing allowed the Thread to spread and another bit of it to land in another place.
Needless to say, he barely survived.
