Tansy grows to 120cm, with clusters of flat, mustard yellow flower heads in summer. Tansy is medicinal, used mainly for a tonic and to relieve heart palpitations. Aerial parts are a poultice for bruises, rheumatism, and varicose veins. Rub leaves on meat to flavor. Boil the flowers for a golden yellow dye: boil the leaves for a yellow-green woolen dye. Use in stimulating and astringent baths for mature and sallow skin. It is also a powerful insect repellent.
Warnings: Avoid if you have sensitive skin. Do not use during pregnancy. It may cause poisoning if taken internally.
