K'dran nodded obediently at the masterHealer's instructions. He was glad he had Juno -- the little flit was perfect for errands like that, and much more cooperative than Dharth. The spring had perched on the pillow next to Accalia and was curled up against the jaderider, her head stretched out in front of her to gaze avidly at the twins. K'dran quirked a smile at the sight.
Once Riona had left, K'dran ambled over to the bed and pulled up a chair next to it. He sank into the chair, still with one side of his mouth quirked up in a lopsided smile as Accalia spoke. "Don't worry, it's not like I haven't seen worse," he reminded her with a snort. Dharth was quite good at making bloody messes of his own. Then his smirk softened. "But you did have me worried there for a while. They didn't think you were gonna make it." He glanced down at the twins, dozing in Accalia's arms. "It would've been sad for these two to have lost their mother," he said softly, then reached down to let Kaliara close her chubby fist around his index finger.
When asked about their names, K'dran shrugged. "I dunno, really. They just sounded right. It's gonna be hard to keep their names straight, though." He continued staring at the infants' sleeping faces with the ghost of a smile playing at his lips.

Accalia smiled, as she stroked the soft, dark hair on Adria's head, at least she assumed it was Adria. "You're right of course, they are perfect names though I am afraid it will take sometime before I tell the difference between them. I should have given you fair warning that there was a possibility of twins," her mouth quirked at the sides.
It was then Kaliara opened her eyes, and Accalia saw for the first time that her daughters had inherited their fathers eyes as well as the dark mop of hair. She glanced up at K'dran and then back down at the younger of her two daughters. "Even if you wanted to, there's no denying your their father. Can you imagine how stupid I would have looked if I had gone along with my intial plan of denying you were? Even only a few hours old and its evident all over their physical features. Why, you would not even be able to tell I was their mother just by looking at them." A laugh burbled up in her throat at the thought.
"I suppose I should feed her now she's awake, will you hold Adria for the time being?" her hands were so full of baby she had no way to pass Adria to K'dran and simply waited for the blackrider to take the child frome her.

K'dran chuckled along at the thought. "Yeah. Well, it may change. I know babies are almost always born with blue eyes, maybe they'll grow into a different eye color." He shrugged. "Either way, it's still surprising to be stared at by my own eyes," he added, looking back at Kalaria.
"Oh, sure," he said. The blackrider gently pried his finger from Kalaria's grip and scooped up the firstborn twin into his arms. "We'll probably end up having to keep one of them with short hair and leave the other long, or something like that so we can tell one from the other." He chuckled again as he stood and strolled back and forth around the room with Adria tucked against his chest.
Are you going to come back here to sleep, or are you becoming noctural? Dharth demanded bitingly. Your doting and cooing is keeping me up, and frankly it sickens me.
"Get over yourself, Dharth," K'dran returted under his breath, eyes never leaving Adria's face. You've tuned me out before, so tune me out now.
The big black growled irritably and set his head back on his paws.
K'dran grinned. "Well, there is some good news. Dharth is cured of his fixation, now that I've 'gone soft'," he told Accalia wryly. "So at least he won't go ripping anyone's head off again." What he didn't mention was now that the black had lost his fixated possessiveness, he was liable to take out his ill-temper on Accalia or one of the twins. That notion certainly sent a jet of ice into his veins, though he was determined not to worry about it until the issue came to a head.

Accalia forwent the attempt at modesty as she went about feeding Kaliara. It was not as if K'dran had not seen her bared breast before, although things had been rather different then. Still he had sat through the entire birth, so she supposed she would just have to get over her reticence. It took a while before the baby latched on, but finally she did and Accalia felt an intense relief. Adjusting Kaliara within her arms, she propped herself upright against the pillows.
"Mm perhaps, but a blue that is almost white? I only know of one person with such peculiar eyes." She murmurmed as she shifted the baby to the other side, and waited for her to start to suckle again.
"We could always tie a piece of ribbon around their arms, one color for Adria and another for Kaliara. At least until they are old enough to tell us which is which." Finally the baby seemed to have had her fill, and Accalia glanced up at K'dran. "I'll swap you. But place Kaliara on your shoulder and rub her back gently," the jade rider instructed as she took hold of Adria and passed Kaliara to her father.
"Thank Faranth for that," Accalia said quietly as the second baby started to feed, her eyes taking on a slightly haunted looking at the subtle reminder of what had taken place outside the Dinining Hall 6 months previously. "Although I don't think that will change things as much as everyone else is concerned." While at the moment Accalia wanted nothing more than her babies, she knew that may not always be the case. And yet it was highly unlikely any man would be game enough to approach, not after knowing what had happened with the last man who had shown her a shred of interest.

K'dran deposited Adria gently in Accalia's arms and took Kaliara. "The Healer already gave me that lecture," he told the jaderider with a wink. To demonstrate, he gently rested the infant across his shoulder and ran his hand rhythmically over the baby's back until a soft urp rewarded his efforts.
He sighed wearily. "That's inevitable, I suppose." The blackrider looked down at Kalaria, who regarded her father solemnly with her shockingly pale eyes. "I really hope that their resemblance to me ends with their looks," he added. "I'd hate for these kids to end up like me, bonded to a monster." K'dran's voice was so soft, it was hard to hear even across the relatively short distance between him and Accalia.
Be grateful that the particularly nasty colors are all rare, Dharth remarked sarcastically.
I thought you were tuning me out? he retorted, his telepathic tone sharp.
The conversation captured my interest in spite of me.
K'dran rolled his eyes. "Anyway, let's talk about something sentimental, maybe that will make Dharth go back to sleep," he said aloud with a touch of irritability.

"I'm impressed, you're already quite the father" Accalia nodded her head as K'dran burped the baby as required. Accalia performed a similar maneouvre with Adria now that she too had finished feeding, her hand rubbing circles over the girl's tiny back. "I can see how hard this could be if I am on my own." Accalia grimaced. "I suppose I am going to have to get help from time to time, or perhaps feed one and while having the other one in the crib hope whichever one has to wait will not cry too loudly."
The baby made the same noise as her sister, and Accalia shifted the child back into her arms. "Your not so bad K'dran. At least not when you choose to be pleasant. " Accalia said thoughtfully. "And if we end up having sadistic little girls well we can just blame Dharth for that, can't we." The jade rider looked down at her daughter, wondering just what the future held in store for her.
"Sentimental? And what exactly do you propose we should discuss? Your not really all that sentimental K'dran, even if Dharth thinks you have gone soft."

K'dran glanced back at Accalia. "You can have Rownith tell Juno if you need help, and she'll give me the message," he pointed out. "And I'll come lend a hand, if whatever I happen to be doing at the time permits." Meaning, if Dharth doesn't have plans for K'dran's day that don't include tending the whims of a wriggling pink thing.
It wasn't a nice thought, wondering if his dragon's influence would corrupt either girl. He held Kalaria closer to him for a moment as if to shield the infant from the world, and from his own sadistic dragon. Then, as he sensed Dharth's chuckle at that train of thought, the blackrider resolutely shook his head to clear it.
He quirked an eyebrow at Accalia and grinned. "And what makes you think that?" he asked dryly. "Are you overestimating me too? I'm not that shallow, y'know." He chuckled. "I might just develop a sentimental side just to get Dharth out of my head." A scathing snort followed that statement. If thast's what it took to keep the black's meddling at a minimum, that was a small price to pay.

Accalia's left eyebrow rose at K'dran's suggestion. "Ugh, I'm not so sure even I could handle you being sentimental, but then again I suppose I would be spared, it would be our daughters who no doubt would be on the receiving end of it." She rolled her eyes slightly.
"And thank you for the offer of help, although I know you'll be busy at times, and I would hate to be constantly pulling you away from something. I am sure I will learn to manage quite well for the most part." Accalia stifled a yawn with one hand, keeping her hold on Adria with the other. "I think it's time for us all to go back to sleep," she gazed down at her baby's drooping eyes, her own feeling quite heavy. "Do you mind putting them both back into the crib? Hopefully I will stop feeling so sore soon and be able to do it myself."

K'dran laughed aloud at the jaderider's admission as he stepped up too the bed so he could gather Adria into his arms. "I'm sure they'll get tired of it fairly quickly too," he remarked with a grin. "As will I."
The blackrider lowered both infants gently into the crib and arranged them comfortably. Juno flitted over and perched on the edge of the crib; he turned to stare avidly into the flit's eyes for a few moments. Juno chirruped an affirmative and flicked her tail.
"Good idea. Insomnia nonwithstanding, I've got drills tomorrow." He sighed wearily. "Juno will stay here in case something untoward happens, or if you need a pair of claws to get something from across the room." He fixed the jaderider with a stern eye. "So that doesn't give you an excuse to be up running around before your body finished recovering. Hear me?" Without waiting for her to reply, the blackrider turned on his heel and headed out the door. "Anyway, I'll check back in sometime tomorrow."
