Crafts:
Healers
The dedicated Healers of Skrull wear white robes with a red cross on them, the meaning of which has long been lost. Rather than getting patients drunk, they use a salve made from various plants that cause the patients to go numb in the areas applied, or a drink that tends to knock them out. One of the primary ingredients in the drink is the neutralized Ghost Acid. Ranks are determined by the Master based upon one's skill.
Printers
Printing in Skrull also enfolds to include scribes. Thus, a printer is anyone trained in the art of calligraphy as well as in using stone blocks to create rapid, mass-produced copies of popular texts. To a man, printers tend to be relatively unimaginative and often cannot actually read or write very well themselves. Rank is related to the level of speed and quality the Printer can achieve.
Harpers
In Skrull, Harpers are historians more than any of their facets. They learn the Old Tongue and the oral histories off by heart. A Harper may advance to Journeyman level by showing his skill in memorization and understanding of the History, but may only become a Master with the creation his own, totally unique, work.
Beasthandlers
This field includes both those who actually deal with the raising and training of beasts, but also with the breeding of such. Most tend to specialize in one type of animal with their relative skill being determined by either the quality of the animals they breed or the strength of their training.
Technicians
A minority group who focuses in examining and understanding the curious mechanisms found through Skrull, such as the sealing door on the Archives and the functionality of the Great Gates. They tinker and toy with ideas, but are also responsible for maintenance. Rank is simple seniority.
Wherhandlers
Exactly the same as beasthandlers, but rather more specialized.
Masons
Responsible for the hollowing out and shaping of tunnels in the Weyr as well as building construction across the island. Many are Ghostriders, but not all. Rank is based upon hours worked and, as such, there can be more than one Master Mason at a time.
Farmers
Growers of all crops, from legumes to vines. The skill of a farmer and their 'rank', less important among themselves, is determined by the number of different crops they can grow successfully. Two or less is an Apprentice, three or four is a Journeyman and eight different crops makes a master.
Carvers
Refers to the Stonecarvers, responsible for both engraving decorations on to walls and also making sculptures. Heavily utilize the stone-softening acid to Ghosts to create exquisitely detailed work. Ranking up is determined by one's peers: To reach Journeyman, one must create a Journeyman piece which is declared to be of Journeyman quality by at least three current Journeymen. The same is goes for the Masterpiece, but with the number being five: Or less, if there are not five Masters currently alive.
Weavers
Makers of garments, tapestries and other similar things out of wool, cotton, silk and so on. Operate on a similar system to the Stonecarvers, but most don't really care about their 'rank'.
Fishermen
Catchers of things in the sea. Not just fish, but also shellfish and sea plants. Skrull imposes size limits and number restrictions on its fishermen, and Journeyman and Master status are more for bragging rights than anything, based on a total length of one breed of fish in a single trip which must equal or better someone of Journeyman or Master status. There is, for sake of fairness, three Master seats and seven Journeymen ones at the Fishing Lodge: Thus making it a hot competition.
Miners
Like Masons, but not. Hardly ever Ghostriders, as the acid tends to tarnish metal. They seek the removal and refinement of precious metals, with the actual smelting being the role of smiths. Rank is based on hours worked.
Butchers
Slaughterers of animals and cutters of meat. Rank is, as before, a thing of bragging more than anything: With a formula to determine the time required to achieve it. Ranking up is done by weighing an animal, finding the correct time on the Butchery Chart and then equalling or beating that time from killing the animal to having it fully butchered. The usable, as for human consumption, bits of meat are weighed and must meet a certain weight for validity.
Smiths
These men, and occasionally women, take the metal refined by the Miners and make it into serviceable tools. In Skrull, Smiths also work heavily with bone as it is the most plentiful material in the Weyr and as such mass amounts of decent quality but overall brittle goods can be made. They use the peer system of ranking, but only need the acknowledgement of one Journeyman and Master for each stage. There are still surprisingly few of both rank, as Smiths are notorious perfectionists.
Glaziers
Makers and installers of glass products. Still relatively rare in Skrull. Rank comes from the clear and evenness of your glass, measured against existing examples.
Brewers
Makers of alcohol, be it ale, wine or the Skrull Special. For whatever reason, neutralized Ghost acid has an incredible kick to it and, if fermented with the correct blend of alcohol, can create either a great pick-me-up or a total knockout. Rank is easy enough: Apprentices can make good ale, Journeymen good wine, and Masters can make a Skrull Special that doesn't kill the drinker. They test it on goats, first.
Woodsmen
These men, and women, cut trees, shape trees and craft wooden goods from them. It is all encompassing, ruling over all things wood related. Rank is simple enough: One Master, per Weyr or Hold, who promotes to Journeyman as he sees fit and eventually designates the next Master.
