Weyr:
Talune.
Name:
Jouri.
Gender:
Female.
Sexuality:
Hetero.
Rank:
Opalrider; Senior Weyrwoman. Wingleader of the Queen's Wing
Age:
Twenty-three turns.
Appearence:
Details;
Hair, Eyes & Skin - Jouri's hair is usually kept a little below shoulder length. It's short enough not to be much of a bother to take care of, but long enough to pull back into a ponytail. It's straight, easy to brush, and is medium brown with a few darker brown highlights.
Her eyes are an amber-brown color, very pretty. They're bright and full of fire, and seem to darken in color just a little when she's at the height of an emotion.
Her skin is tannish, a bit rough, with the occasional small scar visible. She's not one to spend hours at a time spreading sweet-smelling creams and oils on herself. She likes to look good, but doesn't bother much with things like that, and silly ornaments for her body. She prefers to work with what she has.
Body Build, Height & Clothing - Jouri is quite pretty. She's slender and lithe, at just the right body built and stature for her size (about five feet, five inches). She has an appealing body, no doubt, but...
She usually just wears tougher, working clothes (though they aren't dirty or old-looking, she takes care of her clothes), but whenever she goes to a Gather or to meet with some important Lord Holder or a fellow Weyrwoman (or Weyrleader) she dresses up some.
She does enjoy pretty clothes, and perhaps the occasional simple, but elegant bracelet, but she doesn't have time to bother with those things.
Sometimes she likes to live up to the phrase, 'If you've got it, flaunt it', and show off a little, but only sometimes.
Other - Not at the moment...
Personality:
Jouri is highly loyal and protective of the few people she claims as 'hers.' She does not attach herself to many, but when she does, there is no doubt that she will put you above everything except Linnelyth. If there is doubt, she will do something to make sure it's dealt with, effectively and swiftly.
However, she actually lets so few people in... It's like trying to get into a fancy, famous, exclusive club that has outrageous demands and only accepts two or three people a year. Not that she has outrageous demands or is fancy or famous - it's generally completely random who she finds herself drawn to - she just doesn't like to surround herself with people. She's not antisocial or shy by a long shot, but she doesn't like crowds and hates feeling suffocated by people.
Well, maybe she does have demands... Not outrageous ones, usually, but she does have some. She is very harsh in judgement, of herself and others, but she does think for a while and try to understand and get to know them, or the problem she's facing, before making a decision. She's quite witty and intelligent, cunning and crafty, and there is no question that she would have been a prime candidate for Impressing an Onyx, had she been male.
She does have flaws (if you haven't already picked them out or guessed), though, believe me.
She has absolutely no confidence or self-esteem issues; she sees herself exactly as she is, and is highly proud. She doesn't glorify herself, and though she can become over-confident occasionally, she knows she's good. She's proud of who she is and the things she can do.
She's also easily irritated and annoyed, and though it takes a fair deal to make her truly angry or upset and loose her cool, she does snap and is sarcastic a lot of the time after a fight, and is not pleasant company at all when she's in a snit. Overall, she's not the kind of person who you want to be sentimental or 'soft' with.
She tends to get herself into arguements a lot, because she is very passionate and energetic. She can get into debates without turning it into a brawl, but people tend to be offended by her devil-may-care attitude toward most things.
Under pressure, she generally holds herself admirably, but she can break down. She's only human. She can be scatterbrained or a bit indecisive sometimes. She has no reguard for rules at all, though, and when the situation calls for it her tongue instantly dons a silver coating and the edges are touched with poison.
Jouri's favorite thing to do is draw. She's very, very good at it, and is very private with her work. The only person she's ever shown everything to is Linnelyth. She's very imaginative and looks at things in different ways when she's engrossed in her favorite hobby, so those are the best times to ask her advice on things - if she doesn't bite your head off for interupting her and making her screw the picture up, anyway.
History:
Father - A fisherman of Talune Hold, named Froy. Still kickin' and fishin'.
Mother - The fisherman's wife, named Graili. She's still around.
Siblings - Two brothers, Corelieo and Zron, both fostered off somewhere else. They're twins, and one and a half turns older than her, both still alive.
Jouri's had an interesting life so far, full of unexpected twists...
Her first few years were normal. She grew up in Talune Hold, her parents being older children of some of the first people to populate it.
She learned the teaching ballads and did well in her lessons, and all sorts of things about fish - how to catch, prepare and cook them to perfection.
Jouri has always been careful of who she calls 'friend.' It's just a part of her nature. She never had droves of people to play with or chat with, but she did have idle, meaningless conversations with mostly everyone.
Her main (and best) friends were her brothers, and she was down for quite a while after they were fostered away. She was the youngest and had always followed them around, though they hadn't treated her like a tag-a-long. They had been her best friends, and still are - she contacts them frequently (then and now), through letters and visits.
Of course, she was a bit older when they were fostered - fifteen turns, almost sixteen - so she hadn't actually been a little hanger-on.
When the Dragonriders came on Search to their Hold, as they tended to do on a fair bit bigger basis now, what with the new colors laying Clutches (not only Golds), she didn't expect much. She had been looked over so many times before...
So, the nineteen-turn-old girl had been daydreaming a bit, her eyes not paying attention to their visitors. She had been gazing at the water, thinking how beautiful it was today and that it would make an excellent picture (perhaps she could draw Fire-Lizards playing in it?) when suddenly she found her vision obstructed with a Dragon's face, as it looked her over and decided she would be perfect.
Before she knew it she was leaving for Talune Weyr, and had Impressed to an Opal Dragon, become Weyrwoman, and was apparently the Weyr's last hope.
It was nerve-wracking, and she knew nothing about running such a place as this, nothing about Dragons aside from what she had been taught in the normal lessons every child was given.
She was, for the first time in her life, truly terrified.
Jouri soon learned, though, that she didn't need to be. She would never be alone in anything she did, she would always have another mind with hers, someone to help carry the burden... She had Linnelyth.
She sucked up all the knowledge she could from the Weyrlingmaster, learning and remembering how to care for Dragons, and she learned all she could about how to run a Weyr - and she is still learning, but she was doing all right... Somehow she was keeping things in order, though with a lot of help from the Headwoman.
And then, Linnelyth Rose.
Linnelyth was caught by Onyx Varanth, and as such, Jouri was stuck with D'ron as Weyrleader.
At first she wasn't sure how to react to him, having never been under the circumstances ofwhat happens post-Flight, but she actually warmed up to him, and found that he would be one of the few in her circle of close friends. They tend to work well together...
Pets:
None, but she'll probably come to the first Fire-Lizard Hatching she hears about.
------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------
Dragon Name:
Linnelyth.
Dragon Color:
Opal.
Age:
Four turns.
Personality:
Linnelyth is much the same as her Rider in some traits, but others are completely different or changed in intensity...
Linnelyth is every bit as energetic and passionate as her Rider, and has the same views on loyalty and how many friendships she amasses. However, she deals better with crowds and being polite and diplomatic to everyone.
She's less sharp than Jouri in the mind (not that she's stupid...), but she's also less careless with things, and a great deal more compassionate, and tends to worry and 'mother hen' a bit over those she cares for. She's very imaginative and creative, and helps inspire her partner a lot whenever she finds time to draw.
Linnelyth is calmer and more approachable about things than her Rider, and is not nearly as harsh in judgement or agitated as easily. She is, however, a lot more scatterbrained and has to be constantly reminded about small things - though, she does have a little bit better long-term memory than most Dragons do.
She is not proud, and though she isn't down on herself, she doesn't have the same confidence as Jouri. She does, however, have a humorous streak and absolutely loves teasing and playful jesting, whether she's dishing it or taking it.
Appearence:
Linnelyth is as appealing to the eye as her Rider is. Her hide is mostly a beautiful, pale sky-blue, all over, aside from her wings, which are a creamy blue-white, mostly white. Down her underbelly, neck and the underside of her tail are small, almost invisible pale purple dots, so tightly mixed with the blue that it looks as if she's shimmering a different color. The same happens on her cheeks and down both sides of her neck and shoulders, dipping down the sides and fronts of her legs and paws, across her ribs, hindquarters, and her hind legs and paws, except in a pale-gold shade of yellow.
Her size is about forty meters, a good size for an Opal, and her build is as slender, lithe, and perfect as her Rider's. She's a very flexible, agile Opal, with a great deal of stamina, but she doesn't do well with 'air sprints' or extremely long periods of flying at high speeds, so her Flights are a bit more tame than most.
She has no particularly nasty scarring, only what would be normal...
