Weyr: Talune
Name: M'lon (Milasson)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bi-sexual
Rank: Wingrider
Age: 24
Appearance: The first thing people notice about M'lon, and easily his best feature, is his wide smile, nearly always a permanent fixture upon his face. His teeth are perfectly straight and are as white as may be achieved on Pern. However that is as far as perfection goes for M'lon, he is certainly not one of Pern's beauties. He has a long oval-shaped face with large ears sticking out. M'lon's nose is also quite large, jutting far out from his face, and this physical attribute is one that he is most insecure about. He has a mop of dark brown hair that falls straight to his ears and covers his forehead, with heavy brows of the same dark hue.
His eyes are a murky brown, like two pools of stagnant water, peering out from a pale face not suited to the harsh sun of Southern. As a result he must take care when outdoors, and is often seen red and peeling due to burns. M'lon is mid-range of the bell curve for height upon Pern. He is also rather thin, with only a small amount of lean muscle upon his bones despite his duties as a dragonrider. He has a large scar on his right shoulder, a souvenir from a particularly nasty Threadfall.
M'lon takes great care in his clothing choices to compensate what genetics gave him and visits a seamstress so as his clothing always fits well. He favors dark colors, such as greens, browns, blacks and deep reds, and has them cut in pants and tunics that flatter his lean frame, rather than dwarf it.
Personality: M'lon is the eternal optimist and likes to think the best of people, not only giving second chances, but third, fourth and fifth. This trait seems to have risen from an unblemished childhood, one where those he grew up with were trusted family and friends and people who seemed to genuinely care for him. Unfortunately this makes him incredibly naive, and his incessant good mood can be tiring at times. Faced with adversity, he tries to turn a blind eye.
He is a friendly and sociable being, often poking his nose into other people's business with a word of 'friendly’ advice, assuming that others will find it as helpful as he himself believes it to be.
M'lon is a hard worker, though he is the type that must be instructed to do a task, having little initiative of his own. Despite being the eldest of his siblings, it was always Alias who came up with the hair-brained schemes, M'lon tagging along.
As a lover M'lon showers affection on his chosen, however he is very fickle and generally does not stay with one person for longer than 3 months. His attention span, and interest often waver earlier than this, and he is never one to commit.
History: It was lust at first sight for Journeyman Milas when he first laid eyes on Allahna of green Frintenth some 26 Turns ago on assignment at Talune Weyr. Unfortunately the same could not be said for the greenrider. However the Harper's incessantness eventually wore her down and she realized she could do far worse than the Harper as a weyrmate. Over the Turns she grew to love the man and gave him three children, including their eldest and only son Milasson.
Milasson had a rarely uneventful childhood, oblivious to the political events that occurred in the Weyr around him. Despite the odd childhood illness and the usual scrapes and bumps an active boy gets, Milasson was a healthy and happy child who was loved by his parents and (usually) got along with his two younger sisters, especially Alias the closest to him in age.
Alias and Milasson spent many a candlemark playing together and having 'adventures' around the Weyr, although it was Alias who would suggest the more daring of games, often getting them into such trouble that neither could sit down for days after the incident.
Having grown up in a Weyr, Milasson could not think of anything he would rather be than a dragonrider. Luckily for him, shortly after his 12th Turnday when his parents were hinting that he might look into choosing a Craft for himself, he was permitted to Stand for the Senior Queen's clutch. When the Hatching occurred he was ecstatic to Impress blue Okasrith, his family smiling proudly from the Stands, as he became M'lon.
His weyrlinghood went much the same way his earlier childhood had with little cause for excitement although he did spend a great deal of time in the kitchens or helping to store firestone for the upcoming Pass.
It was as a graduate that he started to have some awareness of what went on the Weyr around him, having graduated at a time when their was only one gold left, and her never having laid a queen egg. As with the rest of the Weyr, he watched the flight, confused by the dark thing that blocked Rukbhat high in the sky above the mating dragons.
However his duties at the Weyr occupied him during this time as they readied for Fall, and he soon forgot of the peculiarity that had occurred, the death of both Weyrleader and Weyrwoman further pushed it from mind.
It was not until Hatching when M'lon ferried Candidates to the Hatching Ground, and then awaited the newly Impressed that he was reminded of the eclipse as it had been called. It was his first glimpse of the colored eggs, and as the Clutch Hatched dragons of a coloring never before seen on Pern, he was as amazed as the rest of the Weyr.
It took time for M'lon to adjust seeing these strange new colors around the Weyr, although with his usual optimism he thought it signified a new and better era for Talune, choosing to ignore suggestions that dragons like his own blue were now inferior.
Having fought Thread since the early days of the Pass, both rider and dragon have sustained injuries. The worst was during the same Fall that resulted in the Opal's death, no-one expecting the pattern the Thread would take. M'lon took a large tangle of Thread on his right shoulder that seared through his jacket, while Okasrith's right wingsail was scorched. While out of action for quite a while, the pair did recover though M'lon sports a scar as a result and Okasrith occasionally has problems with his right wing.
When he had first Impressed, if asked, M’lon would have said he was homosexual. However this attitude has changed over the Turns with Okasrith's wins of green mating flights, and M'lon's subsequent partake in flight lust irrespective of gender. Deciding that bedding both sexes had its merits, and that to discriminate against one sex in the bedroom halved his pool of potential partners, M'lon now enjoys the status of bisexuality, having bedded any number of riders, weyrfolk and those outside the Weyr in the last six Turns or so.
Father: Journeyman Harper Milas (48)
Mother: Allahna of Green Frintenth (44)
Siblings: Alias (sister-20), Hilna (sister-16)
Pets: None
Dragon Name: Okasrith
Dragon Color: Blue
Age: 12
Personality: Okasrith is a delightful dragon and is easily pleased by such things as a good bathing and oiling. He is very obedient and takes directions from his Wingleader very seriously. Okasrith is always willing to help a fellow wing rider, and actually enjoys ferrying people to and from the Weyr. A good Search dragon, over the years he has identified a number of Talune's Candidates, who have gone on to Impress, of which he is proud of. However he is somewhat wary of the new colors, not quite believing his Mine's assurances that they in no way will replace him, and constantly feels as if he must push himself to show he is as good as any other dragon.
Appearance: Okasrith is a medium sized blue at 27.5m, and has a lithe, streamlined body that enables him to take sharp turns and dives after Thread. His wing span is normal for a blue of his size, however there is discoloration to the right wing due to a Thread scoring and when over-exerting himself the wing may cause him pain. His general coloring is the bright blue of the Harpers Hall, although he does have patches of a navy blue scattered across his back, and is underside is a shade lighter than his back, a more summer sky azure. Like his rider, he shows a great deal of concern over his appearance, bathing frequently and ensuring his hide is oiled to a glistening sheen.
