Weyr: Atlanopolis
Name: Adria
Gender: female
Sexuality: bi leaning toward homo
Rank: candidate
Age: 13
Appearance:
Adria and her sister got most of their looks from their father: tall and lanky, with very adolescent long-limbed proportions that she might never grow out of. She has the sort of lean build that never gains weight no matter how much she eats, and Adria has a hearty appetite. Her complexion is relatively light -- not blindingly pale, but not quite as dark as her mother.
Her hair is a rich, raven black that almost looks like it has a navy blue undertone when hit by bright, direct sunlight. She leaves it long enough to tickle the nape of her neck in the back, though it falls around ear-length most of the way around her head and flares out slightly at the ends.
Her eyes, inherited from K'dran, are alarmingly pale. From any distance at all, the color almost seems white: in reality, her irises have a very light, clear blue color, like ice. A few flecks and veins of a faintly more intense color pervade her eyes, but this is hard to notice unless from up very close.
An unfortunate side-effect to her gangly build is that Adria is terribly clumsy. CRASH "Ow! I'm okay!" can be heard regularly from the lanky girl, and it's likely that she'll never grow out of her klutziness.
Personality:
Adria is fairly introverted and prefers her own company, or the company of the few people she is truly close to, over large crowds. In social situations she can be withdrawn and distant, leading people to think she is shy, though with her family or close friends she is far from shy. In her own element, Adria's quick wit and sharp tongue come into play, proving that she is very intelligent and clever. And independent -- she has spent much of her life trying to keep people from confusing her and Kaliara, and she is determined to be very little like her sister. She still loves her twin to bits, but she finds it annoying to be constantly mixed up.
She is a quick learner, and in many cases can intiut a lot more than others can. Though to others she might seem a bit callous and apathetic, (an unfortunate tendency she picked up from her father) she more relies on instinct than intellect alone. She is a believer in second chances, willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but she is far from a pushover and will draw the line when needs be.
In all, Adria's temperament is fairly easygoing. She tends to indolence, and that manifests in several ways: she dislikes confrontation, and when insulted she tends to clam up rather than start an argument. She is difficult to irritate; slights to herself roll off her shoulders, although when she perceives antagonism toward someone she holds dear, Adria shows a surprisingly prickly side to her personality. She is quite adaptable, preferring a go-with-the-flow attitude rather than having her days rigidly structured.
She can have a positively puppy-like outlook sometimes -- when in a cheerful mood, she spreads it around and is a generally fun person. But Adria has a cynical streak in her along with a stubborn one, and in a bad mood people are advised to keep their distance to avoid a tongue-lashing. Unfortunately, Adria has picked up a rather colorful vocabulary from K'dran, so when she is mad, everyone can tell.
Like Kali, Adria is very much a daddy's girl; she adores K'dran, and spends as much time as she can with him. This has gotten her dangerously close to getting on the wrong end of Dharth's claws, but so far K'dran has managed to protect his daughters from the black's ire.
History:
Adria and Kali were conceived thanks to one of Dharth's plots; though the black was unsatisfied by the lukewarm reaction he got from Rownith after the Flight, Accalia's reaction was well worth the effort, as far as he was concerned. Even more so when, a few months later, the pregnancy was confirmed. In order to exert yet more control over his rider, Dharth forced K'dran to become involved with the whole ordeal: what none of them had predicted was how K'dran's feelings would develop. By the time the twins were born, K'dran was as devoted a father as any woman could have hoped, despite the demands on his person set by a now-disinterested Dharth.
Growing up, Adria and her twin had a fairly average childhood: as normal as can be expected, when one is raised in Eden Weyr and one's sire rides a black just as bad, perhaps worse, than any cyan or amber. Their parents contrived to protect them from Dharth's antics until they were old enough to learn to stay away from the black behemoth. That was slightly difficult to accomplish, given the deep attachment both twins had to K'dran, but somehow they managed to escape serious harm.
Then, once Adria hit the age of eight Turns or so, she noticed something unusual. Whenever her mother's jade Rownith made a comment, Adria could hear it, whether or not the remark was directed at her. She also heard Dharth's mind-speech as well, even when the big black wasn't directly addressing her; though he was wont to do just that, as it unnerved K'dran slightly. Adria experimented with it a bit, hanging around the adult riders and their dragons; she could hear them all. She hunted up her family to let them know of her epiphany; finding her twin first, Adria explained a bit breathlessly, then demanded to know if Kaliara could do the same. It stood to sense that both could be gifted with the same ability, being identical twins, but it seemed that Kali had no such gift. K'dran, of course, was the next to hear from his excited daughter, and shared the girl's moment of triumph with her.
Since Adria was still too young at that point to become a candidate, she had little opportunity to exercise that gift, unless it was to help her negotiate around Dharth. Thanks to her gift of hearing any dragon, she became quite adept at reading the big black's moods.
Adria's relationship to Dharth was a constant source of bemusement and fear to her father: she didn't fear Dharth, but obviously was prudently wary of him. She didn't let Dharth's presence stop her from seeking K'dran out -- unless Dharth was in the sort of mood that meant he wouldn't take kindly to an intrusion by the annoying whelp.
As soon as she and Kali passed six months after their twelfth birthing-day, they were presented with formal white robes and made candidates. After all, why wouldn't a weyr-bred girl with the ability to hear any dragon stand a significant chance of Impression? Especially if she was so easy around dragonkind in general that she could tolerate Dharth's mercurial mood-swings as stoically as did her father.
Father: K'dran of black Dharth
Mother: Accalia of jade Rownith
Siblings: twin sister Kaliara
Pets: beta (male) Cion Morpheus
Preferred color: doesn't matter too very much to her; Desert would like something tough enough to stand up to dragons like Seth and Dharth and Honuth
Color not preferred: just not a queen or anything too prissy or vain (like a jade or ruby)
Other: can hear all dragons
-a'splodes- this has been one of the most entertaining mini-plots i've done in a while. =DDD
