Weyr: Fyr Amenti
Name: Ayeda [pronounced eye-A[as in DAY]-duh]
Gender: female
Sexuality: she started out life heterosexual, but after Turns of being bonded to Xeal, she's not sure anymore
Rank: wingrider
Age: 35
Appearance:
Ayeda is fairly tall for a woman, with a lithe build that makes her agile and graceful. While the average Pernese is a fair mix of old Terran bloodlines, Ayeda is strikingly Asian in appearance; some might conjecture that she could trace her bloodlines back to Wind Blossom and Kitti Ping.
Her facial structure certainly fits the assumption, for she has an oval face and upturned, almond-shaped eyes of a dark brown color. The hue is fairly solid, but for a lighter amber hue around her pupil that shades discreetly into the muddier sepia.
Her skin naturally possesses a more pigment than that of the average person; closer to a gold tone, rather than the bronze many others adopt when subjected to the sun. The difference is not as pronounced as in a direct Asian descendant, but still plain to anyone who looks upon her.
Her hair is a glossy raven-wing black; deep and unchanged, but when struck by bright direct light, it shimmers with a navy undertone. She keeps it fairly short in order to keep it out of trouble: the bangs fall just at her brow, and the length stays the same so that in the back her hair barely tickles the nape of her neck.
By far, Ayeda favors wearing one color above all: red. When she has any choice in the matter, i.e. whenever she isn't doing something that would ruin her good clothing, she wears something of red. Her Gather dress is a particularly stunning example of this: a rich bloodred with butterflies embroidered mostly in gold bullion [[see ref pic]].
Personality:
No one who looks upon Ayeda can deny that she is beautiful, but this is one butterfly that has a sting in her tail. Don't mess with Ayeda, for she is no coward. She will stand up for what she believes in, for beyond her pretty exterior she is tough as nails and not afraid to get her hands dirty. While not violent or belligerent by nature, she will do whatever it takes to protect herself, her loved ones, and achieve her goals. Don't challenge this beauty to a duel -- or do anything that would make her challenge you -- because Ayeda is skillful in the use of most types of weaponry, and is an excellent hand-to-hand fighter.
The exterior she presents to the world is well-mannered and gentile, but also one that makes it plain she is bad to cross. In this way she is perfectly suited to her bonded, and it is easy to see why she Impressed a duvalia. She can fit herself in with almost any crowd, be they Lords Holder or common weyrfolk, and always affects an air of aloof grace. Many who interact with her say that she would do well in a position of leadership, but Ayeda prefers not to be in the spotlight, and has thus turned down an offer for Wingleadership in the past.
Ayeda's patience sometimes seems endless. Not many people have managed to get under her skin enough to elicit a reaction, and even this she keeps her ire controlled; this also applies whenever emotions run high, making her well able to keep a level head in an emergency. When she is angry, though, and bothers to let it show, it is a frightening thing. No one has seen this woman loose control, but that doesn't make her wrath any less intimidating: in fact, many would say that Ayeda at the peak of her temper is a more frightening thing than any wher or hybrid gone berserk.
Underneath that sometimes distant exterior is a side of Ayeda that few are privileged to witness. She can be gentle and kind to those she is close to, and is a surprisingly passionate person under the cordial gentility.
History:
No one in Fyr Amenti or Kijuju knows where Ayeda came from. Her early life is a complete mystery: she just showed up one day at the Hold during a Gather, about seventeen Turns old, and insinuated herself into the relatively tight-knit community there. Several people tried asking her about her past, but she would always deftly worm out of any explanation, so eventually they stopped trying.
A pair of bullies who were bold enough to take offense to her evasions and who believed they could take her on thought that this new stranger didn't belong in Kijuju -- for that Hold is a particularly insular place -- tried to evict Ayeda. They challenged her to fight for her right to stay, and to the shock of everyone in the Hold, Ayeda won the duel easily, even after her opponents earned the scorn of their fellow holders by double-teaming and coming at her together in what had begun as a one-on-one duel. From then on the inhabitants of Kijuju held the woman in higher esteem, for she had rid them of two louts whom no one would miss, and they wisely respected the surprising skill she had shown.
Not long after that debacle, Fyr Amenti came to the Hold on Search, and promptly one of the cephalo wrapped her tail around the woman and declared that Ayeda would be an idiot not to come with them. With the ghost of a wry smile, Ayeda allowed that she wouldn't want to be thought of as a fool, and obligingly accompanied the Searchers back to the Weyr.
Despite the cephalo Searcher's assurance that she would Impress, and well, it took almost three more Turns for Ayeda's luck to turn on the Sands. Xealnaveth's Hatching was not one of particular interest, for the duvalia broke his shell and made his way directly -- if at his own leisurely pace -- toward Ayeda, as if he had known all along who was meant for him. Naturally others thought themselves worthy of the regal hatchling, but they were quickly cured of that delusion with a warning hiss or gnashing of teeth.
MyAyeda,
Ayeda cupped the duvalia's chin with both hands, murmuring his name fondly. That was that: she was Xeal's, and Xeal was hers. No one was surprised by her Impression, and the cephalopair who had Searched her were especially smug when they came to congratulate her. She had chummed up with the two -- for Ricadith had been unusually verbose with Ayeda and spoke directly to her as much as did her rider -- since arriving in the Weyr, and they remain to this day good friends.
Soon after they graduated into the fighting wings, an unbonded cephalo by the name of Skolth decided that Xeal was his big brother. Skolth, once making it plain that he found none on the sands worthy of him and the Grounds cleared of people, emerged into the Bowl cavern. He stood, wavering and creeling in hunger, until a dozing Xeal seemed to catch his eye. The hatchling promptly darted into Xealnaveth's shadow and curled his tail possessively around as much of the duvalia's throat as he could.
Xeal was unimpressed at first by his new baby brother, as Skolth referred to himself, but Ayeda surprised both hybrids by accepting Skolth's presence with a smile and a pat on the hatchling's head, and even brought an extra bowl of scraps to sate the youngster's hunger. Skolth, as it was with every wild hybrid, allowed no one to feed or groom him, besides if Xeal was feeling generous. By now Xeal has come to accept Skolth as a fixture and gets along with his shadow as if they were the brothers Skolth declared them to be.
Father: Lyaon
Mother: Nikita
Siblings: none
Pets: alpha cion Mythra
Dragon Name: Xealnaveth [pronounced zeal-nah-veth]
Dragon Color: duvalia [male]
Age: 15
Personality:
For a duvalia, Xeal is a fairly stereotypical example. Much like his rider, he gives off an aura of quiet, confident majesty. Even though he and His are but wingriders, Xeal's behavior is that of a natural born leader. Many have wondered and asked the duvalia why he hasn't tried moving up in the ranks, for he is charismatic and, when the need arises, does well when he takes up the reins, but like Ayeda Xealnaveth prefers not being in the spotlight.
Xeal is more inclined than his rider to show his emotions, but that doesn't exactly say much; he still is difficult to goad into anger, and skilled at suppressing the outbursts. However, when he or Ayeda gets annoyed, it's fairly easy to see the warning signs as Xeal's tail, like a feline's, tends to twitch and flop when emotions run high.
Still, he is as level-headed in times of stress as his rider. And, when all is normal, he also affects Ayeda's polite mannerisms; Xeal is quite the gallant gentleman, which is an unusual trait in hybrids.
His humor tends toward the sarcastic, and when he deems the situation appropriate he can have a sharp tongue to match his wits.
For the most part Xeal prefers not to dirty his hands quarreling pointlessly, and so avoids confrontation when he can, but make no mistake that he can hold his own in verbal and physical altercations. It's almost as if some of Ayeda's mysterious combat training has diffused through their bond, for Xealnaveth is a surprisingly skilled fighter for all his desire for neutrality.
Appearance:
Xealnaveth, for the most part, is fairly average in appearance for a duvalia hybrid. He is of average size, putting him level with a large gold, at just over 45 meters tip to tail. His confirmation looks more draconic than hybrid, as is common for duvalia, and if the quirks unique to hybrids were overlooked, anyone looking at his head would take him for a dragon. The only problem with that is, being a duvalia, Xeal's canine teeth are quite pronounced; the upper pair moreso than the bottom, nearly clearing his chin while the lower set only peek a few inches over his lip.
His hide is a dull, darkish burgundy hue with the barest hint of a violet tinge. The armored shell on his forequarters is a uniform, slightly faded-looking matte black with no under- or overtone as some are wont to have; a color shared by his claws. The purple in his hide becomes more pronounced around his eyes and heat-sensor pits, leaving them looking in perpetual shadow.
The only deviation from these colors is a surprising splash of color: the pinkish hue of aged copper, in a shapeless splotch just under his jaw and chin.
