Hold: Kijuju
Name: Landaras
Gender:Male
Rank:Lord Holder
Age:33
Appearence:Landaras stands at seven or eight centimetres above the average male and while he may have inherited a more ectomorphic body shape, long and lean as opposed to athletic and broad-shouldered, he can be regarded as rather appealing to a number of the female, and so inclined male, population.
His is skin lightly bronzed; the type that has a healthy glow even in the coldest months of the Turn. It also is impervious to sunburn, and may warmen a couple of hues on sun exposure.
The Lord Holder has a strong tapered jaw, with a straight-bridged nose that sits proportionately within his oval shaped face. His eyes are set evenly apart and are a greyish hue with a tint of light blue shot throughout the iris as if radiating from the pupil.
Landaras' hair is as dark as any of Eden's native kings' hides and if it were left to grow, curly. However the man believes that curly hair is only for women and children and as such he has his cropped short just above his ears and short at the front so there is only a suggestion of waviness. He is rarely seen with facial hair of any kind, even stubble, and on the odd occassion when he does appear in such a manner it is an unspoken indication of the stress and fatigue Landaras is currently under.
Landaras is not the type of man to be particular fussed with clothing, when working he could easily be mistaken for anything but Lord Holder judging by his attire. Despite this he does recognise the need to dress a particular way where pomp and ceremony is demanded, however he sticks to simple cuts and clothes with little embellishment.
Personality:Landaras, in a word, is personable. He is the type of man who will make the most insignificant person feel as if their views are being listened to, not merely heard. Surprisingly enough this was a trait he was born with, not one foisted upon him as a prospective Lord Holder. It is evident he does not take his position lightly, and he strives for his best in every facet of a Lord Holder's duties. While this has earned him the favour of Kijuju Hold's occupants it has also given him the reputation of being married to his post; Landaras is very much the workaholic and somewhat the perfectionist. With such a high work ethic of his own, Landaras can not comprehend and is intolerant of lay-abouts, he is known to be quite hard on those of Kijuju Hold who have shown on multiple occassions a tendency to shirk their duties.
His memory is good with details, people's names, conversations; all come to him rather easily. A bright child he grew up into an intelligent and innovative man who is not afraid to push boundaries and disturb the sensitivities of the more hide-bound Lord and Lady Holders. In this he can be rather stubborn, and once he has resolved to persue a certain idea, it is a rare person indeed who can have Landaras change his mind. An extension of this is what Landaras wants he almost always gets, and this is perhaps his greatest flaw. While the Lord Holder usually persues his interests for what he believes are the right motives, this at times can be rather misguided.
At times frighteningly decisive, Landaras is not afriad to make a split second decision and is rather in his element when made to think on his feet. He is not the type to rule from his lofty perch with minions at his back and call. Landaras is most comfortable amongst the other Hold folk, whether it's mediating disputes, helping sort out tithes or the like.
While he has knowledge of the better part of his Holder's lives, Landaras is the type of person everyone thinks they know inside and out, due to his sociable nature, but truly confides in few. This does not mean he is the brooding type with the dark past, this in fact is furtherest from the truth. What it does mean is that with so much of him on display at any given time it allows him to keep one facet of his life reserved and away from public eye; although with how much time he devotes to his work his private life, at best, is minimal.
Landaras is a strong believer in fostering ties between Hold and Weyr and this has been evident from the outset of his tenure. He can not understand the attitude of his contemporaries at Conclave, and his father before Landaras acceded, when they whinge and complain about the Weyrs. Landaras holds the view that the more amiable Hold and Weyr are the more productive both, and that animosity is founded on little more than petty jealousies.
History: Landaras was the first child of the Lord Holder, and founder of Kijuju Hold, and his wife Alamira. He was his father's pride from the outset and groomed early to the position of Lord Holder. At seven Turns of age, after a string of miscarriages, his mother fell pregnant and delivered a daughter prematurely. Unfortunately the child was sickly and the labour greulling and both mother and daughter died within a few hours of each other. It was a double blow to Firodious, who had genuinely loved his wife and had been excited to welcome another child to his family.
Alamira and her daughter's funeral was a grand affair, with the Leaders of the Weyr and nearest Holds coming to pay their respects. Landaras, for the day, was left under the care of a drudge while his father mingled with his guests and received their condolences. It was during this time Landaras was spoken to for the first time by a dragon, a bronze belonging to the drudge's sweetheart. While the two adults spent what little time they had together, the bronze, Mopith, entertained the young Landaras. Mopith's kind gesture was one to have ramifications much further than that day, for it was at that moment Landaras first developed a respect and appreciation for the beasts of the sky that matured as the boy did over the Turns.
As only children can Landaras bounced back from his mother's death, yes he missed her greatly but there was just so much to do and see that at the times when he did feel the pang of loss his melancholy did not linger long.
At Alamira's funeral things had still been relatively neutral, if a little tenuous, between Firodius and the Weyrleaders of Fyr Amenti, however it was less than a Turn later, shortly after Landaras' eighth birthday when Dranth caugh Kylsk and the first hybride were born. Firodius was disgusted that such creatures had been allowed to be born, let alone mature, and he was not careful in hiding his contempt from what he perceived were ineffectual Weyrleaders who had welcomed such monstrosties.
Landaras did not share his father's views, surely such creatures as Mopith had a better idea of what they were doing than such as Landaras or his father, but the times he aired his views to his father he was shortly rebuked.
From contempt, animosity developed, and the Hold folk were quick to follow the example the Lord Holder presented in his attitude to the Weyr.
A decade later a still relatively young Firodius suffered severe chest pains and died not longer after their onset. (What would be known in Terran as a heart attack.) This left Landaras, a young man of only eighteen Turns, in charge of a Hold whose people would all but given up on the Weyr that protected them.
Landaras knew things had to change and quickly before the situation became irreparable. With an ingenuity perhaps not expected in one of his age he gathered up a group of his closest friends, youth who did not share the commonly held perception that Fyr Amenti was a ridicule, and made his way to the Weyr to put forward the tentative hand of friendship. To Landaras' surprise they were welcomed warmly, and after accepting an invitation to return Landaras started to form ideas, some probale, some possible and others downright improbable to furthe ties.
These visits continued over some months before the light-bulb moment came to him. It seemed that a number of his friends at the Hold had formed attachments to riders at the Weyr on their jaunts. From this Landaras arrived at the idea that was to pave a bright future for the previously held acrimony. Using the traditional idea of Lord Holders fostering children between one another as the backbone, he proposed the idea that the Hold and Fyr Amenti Weyr should exchange a contigency of children. While many where wary, Landaras pushed forwards with the idea.
It was not until a few Turns later that Landaras started to see the results of his endeavour but surely enough friendships had started to blossom and the tentative link between Hold and Weyr solidified. What the young man had perhaps not expected was the number of couples, and children, produced. However this too worked in his favour as the line between Holdfolk and Weyrfolk became less distinct and both peoples more accepting.
By now the accord between Weyr and Hold is at its highest ever, however there are those, as always with change, who oppose the blossoming friendship.
Thus far Landaras remains unattached and without issue.
