Willow trees grow to 25m, usually along wet riverbanks. Stem bark is a painkiller, fever reducer, and a source of salicylic acid for aspirin. Various bark extracts are used as a sore throat gargle, to treat heartburn, stomach problems, food poisoning, relieve arthritic pain, and even to remove corns. Infused leaves make a tea for nervous insomnia, and added to baths to ease rheumatism. Willows provide the best quality artist's charcoal, and branches are used for weaving. Willow herb as a tea is used to keep arthritis under control. Used also in combination with sage and wintergreen as a tea for headaches. Willowsalic is used for headache and taken in crystal-like form.
