Fate
Intertwined spirits,
Locked in a winged embrace,
So perfectly different from any other.
It never was a case of simply caring.
It was the whispered thought of “You belong here.”
It was never intended, of course.
Fate meddled with our lives, bending and twisting them so,
Yet each barrier that fell from the odd workings was welcomed,
Each new facet cherished and tenderly held.
You held my spirit, the very essence of freedom, in your hands.
I had your heart, sheltered from the cruel wrath of the unknown.
We could not be normal, though.
We never were to begin with.
It was unspoken, the love.
That simple, crooked grin of your’s could brighten the darkest hour.
That subtle, “I love you” in a touch kept me content.
I knew happiness before, but none like this.
It’s true, you know, the things they say.
The seconds pass like hours when you’re not there.
I didn’t think it could be possible,
I was always in doubt,
And then it rounded and touched me to my very core.
Odd shift of fate, is it not?
I guess that doesn’t matter, though.
You never had that idea of fate that I did, but it grew on you.
A lot of things did.
You saw another light, and I?
I found what I was missing myself.
