After AIVAS, Thread was driven away, and the Pernese people could live a life of peace. They could develop and focus on new things. Despite the past disasters after Thread, they managed to get back on their feet.
But the dragonriders were no longer needed, and they simply stayed in their Weyrs, living their lives away and slowly, but surely, slipping out of existence.
Turns passed, and although the dragonriders were low in number, the Holds started getting tired of having to take care of them. Even some of the weyrfolk were getting agitated at having to work for the dragonriders. They had no role on Pern anymore, after all.
So, a time came when the Holds and non-dragonriding weyrfolk revolted. They gathered their weapons and stormed the Weyrs, taking them by surprise. Many dragons and riders were killed, and their enemies quickly had the upper hand.
The Weyrs retaliated, training, breeding, and raising dragons to be more violent and more able to kill humans. They struck back, turning the tide as they burned the Holders and non-dragonriders to ashes. But it came late, as only two Weyrs remained in existence, and one was lost during the final battles.
Skeltasca Weyr remained, and conquered all the Holds that were left to oppose them. The Skeltascans ruled over their Holds brutally and with an iron fist. Not one holder could dare to fight against them without terrible punishment. All the while, dragonriders were enjoying their newfound power.
But a rebel group of riders rose, and attempted to assassinate the Weyrwoman. It failed, though, and the group was ultimately discovered and each member was sought out and executed. Yet another rebel group rose in their place a short time later, and this time, they escaped.
The rebels took a handful of riders, wherhandlers, and others to seek out a refuge in the Northern Continent, and found a Weyr, but Skeltasca had used it as a waste dump; the water was tainted, and resulted in new, unusual colors being born and the deaths of their mothers.
The riders fled this Weyr, and settled a new one a Turn later, naming it Inakali Weyr. An abandoned Hold was also found, in disrepair, but otherwise a good location for a Hold. It was named Rekasar Hold.
Even though these dragonriders found a refuge, Thread has suddenly returned and their previous rulers are attempting to seek them out and punish them for their treachery. Will the Inakalians be able to fight back the Skeltascans if they're found? And can they last out the Thread that has now returned? Only time will tell.
