Chayth, fretting over his singed tail, spotted V'yal and hurriedly padded to the man, whimpering softly and nervously looking about. How he hated that Magma and her ilk at times, when he was innocently trying to mind his own business. What possible purpose did such creatures serve to the Weyr? Oh sure, a Magma was more agile than any Green, and even a great deal of Jades, and fast to boot, but still, did the few good traits really outweigh their problems? The same went for the Cyans. Runty little brutes they were. Chayth had few issues with Blacks, for he had a great deal of rspect for Dharth, and Dharth had never mistreated him at any point, if anything the Black had been generous. There were times when the Roan had to question it though, perhaps if dharth held no high rank, lead no wings, what then? Well, such thoughts would be pushed aside, at least until later, as they hurt his head, and made his drowsy. Instead, he mnade a show of dragging V'yal off to tend to his 'greivous' injuries.
V'yal followed his Roan, shaking his head as he eyes the tail. Sure, there were a fewpots that would welt, maybe one or two that would blister, but no real damage. Of course, mostly it was pride and ego that was damaged, but none-the-less, V'yal followed after the Roan to collect a small jar of numbweed and slather the hide generously with the salve.
Honuth, her current toy having hurried off at the first chance presented, reappeared from hiding, padding into sight smugly, her neck arched with obvious pride as her spine jutted into the air, her wings mantled in a rather impressive display. Seeing Dharth's expression, his wings curled around and cupped about his skull as he rumbled with laughter, only put a wolfish, devilish grin on her maw, jaws parting into a devious smile. /So you liked that did you? Hmm... Well I suppose you would. It was amusing, and much fun indeed. You should try it sometime, much more fun than spending all attention on a human./ The last note was almost contemptuous, though in fact she was much like the Black in her treatment of the human she was bonded to. However, she didn't limit herself to just ehr bonded, she lashed out at anyone and everyone when the mood struck her.
"The name suites her, I suppose. Oh..." The Magmarider scowled, her lips turning down as her gaze shifted to the door with a sigh. Carefully she rose, cradling her firelizards gently so as not to disturb them, and walked briskly to the door, looking out at the overly proud Honuth and the laughing Dharth. The heavy scent of flame stung her nostrils, and she looked accusingly at Honuth, rightfully so, since the dragon looked so full of ehrself, and seemed more than ready to put on yet another display. Chayth was gone from the roof, and V'yal nowhere to be seen, though if Honuth had injured the Roan badly it was doubtful they'd have made such a quick escape. Thankful then, that the pair was gone so quickly. "I suppose you went and chased off that Roan did you? Big bad beast you are. Must you really flame at every chance you get?" Sternly, she gazed at the Magma, only to receive a chilling look that made even the rider step back a pace, though her expression remained stern.

It took a moment for Dharth to compose himself. But, eventually, he furled his wings neatly over his lean back again and looked at Honuth. His eyes still wheeled an amused seafoam green, though that was the only indication of his former bout of mirth in the big black's now composed posture. He snorted slightly at the posing, prancing magma and tilted his head scornfully, miming a human rolling his eyes.
I prefer to pick as targets those who would afford more than a moment's laughter. But, I suppose, simple things amuse simple minds. Dharth rolled his shoulders in a draconic shrug and sighed.
K'dran, on hearing the black's statement, rolled his eyes. Dharth wasn't exactly trying to pick a fight, but he enjoyed launching barbed comments at those of whom he was contemptuous. It was a bit hypocritical, Dharth's disdainful outlook on Honuth's behavior, since he acted similarly in many circumstances, but that didn't stop him from acting on his judgements.
As Xai left the building and accosted her dragon, K'dran wandered out as well since he had nothing better to do. He saw the icy look Honuth shot her rider and couldn't suppress the faint, sonic smirk that appeared on his lips. K'dran knew that look well -- it was one he got pinned by frequently when Dharth was about to get fed up with him. He was fervently glad Dharth was such an even-tempered black, though really that was almost an oxymoron; it didn't say much.
I would like to get a look at your new pet, Dharth told his rider, his tone imperious. Now that she had joined the dysfunctional "family" with the black and rider, she needed to be looked over by the one (in Dharth's mind) in charge.
With a sigh of long-suffering, having barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes again, K'dran walked over to the big black and held out the spring hatchling cradled in his arms. Dharth lowered his huge head and tilted it, bird-like, to peer at Juno with one multifaceted eye. A low rumble bubbled up from his throat. Well. She is a good size for her color, and looks quite healthy. You lucked out on this, K'dran, the big black remarked, his jaws parting slightly in a wolfish half-grin. I half expected you to get a cyan or magma.
"So did I. But this just means I have to suffer through when she Rises. At least I'd be able to sell her eggs," K'dran replied, glancing at Juno. His expression softened the slightest bit when his gaze rested on the spring, a tri-collored knot around his forearm.

Honuth bristled at the barbed comment, her crimson eyes narrowing sharply in distaste. How dare he? Foolish Black, he knew not what he was getting into. Tail lashing violently at the sand, she hissed softly, spinning to ignore the beast utterly in favor of the humans present. Ah, she knew how to make her threats, and one-on-one she might have issues with a dragon the size of Dharth. Oh, she may well hold her own for some time, as touching her would prove painful in almost all ways, and she could flame just as well as he without the aide of firestone, so in that manner they were equal. In fact... Pausing as K'dran moved to show his prize to Dharth, the Magma's sly head tilted curiously, eyes sputtering flecks of her interest only to fade away just as quickly as they come. Indeed, perhaps size was not all that mattered? Once in the air she was at the advantage, and few could compare to a Magma in flight. Oh she could fly circles and loops around that brute without a thought, all the while brushing against him with her scaled body, slicing at him with her spines. Yes...
A sly smile touched her lips, one that made many shiver for it was the same one that appeared when an idea struck her, an idea she took a liking to. Her eyes shifted color entirely, spiraling away form their crimson shadows in favor of a brilliant blue with streaks of green, and odd tinges of orange. With a low rumble, she siddled foward, her eyes on the small form of K'dran, so much smaller than she, so much more helpless. If Dharth wished to bait her, he would need to take care to guard his own hide as well as that of his human, for there were few places Honuth couldn't reach, and fewer yet she wouldn't destroy to find the human.
Xai watched, releived Honuth's attention was diverted, though sad to see it directed at K'dran. Of course, the rider was able to take care of himself, and had that Black if things got bad, but still. However, Xai wasn't about to interfere, instead watching with a stoic face, holding her little darlings gently, and waited. What else could she do? Stand in the way of the Magma, get herself mauled and the newly hatched flits murdered as well? No, she'd ratehr not suffer anymore today.
A contemptuous roil of feeling shot out at Xai as Honuth listened to her thoughts. Coward she was, though the Magma gave Hers credit for the intelligence of staying out of matetrs that concerned her not. Yes, there were countless reasons that the magma had found Xai suitable, not just because the girl had been too slow to avoid her spines, and unlucky enough to live while impaled, but for her wit. For that silent affection, and understanding, that flowed through each of them for the other. Never was it worded, never was it shown in a manner that was clear, but none-the-less, Honuth cared for the woman, just as Xai cared for the Magma. How anyone could love a creature as vile as Honuth was beyond even her, for she knew herself to be wretchedly cruel and sadistic, was well aware of how others trembled in fear of her tempers and her sick games. How could she not be? She was smarter than a Green or Brown equivilant, more so than a Broze as well. Only a fool or someone so utterly dedicated to not seeing the bad could overlook the expressions on the faces around.
But Honuth fed on that fear and that respect just as she did meat and blood. It made her feel powerful, made her feel alive to know that others saw her as imposing, as dangerous, despite her small staure, despite her being foreing. Her head snaking back and forth, weaving through the air like a viper ready to strike, she rumbled softly, the sound rippling from her slightly parted jaws and dripping forth like poison. Watch what you say Dharth, I just might be offended, and I doubt even you can live without a human for long. Her tongue flicked out, sliding over her lips hungrily, and nly then did she realize she was indeed hungry. Greatly so. Ravenously so.

And I doubt you could live without your head for very long, Dharth replied coolly, not bothering to lift his head from inspecting Juno to speak to the magma. Besides, even if you are less possessive of your rider, you are no cyan. have a care whom you threaten, Honuth. I am not a one to be toyed with.
K'dran, as he heard Dharth's speech, edged farther away from the magma. Dharth's whiplike tail, which had been stretched out behind him, mostly still except for the tip which flipped and twitched like a feline's tail, coiled around K'dran's ankles. The big black pulled his rider around well out of Honuth's reach and loosened one wing from his side, ready to spread it protectively should she strike.
K'dran leaned against the lean, maroon-flecked haunch and suppressed a shudder. As accustomed as he was to that icy tone that often infected Dharth's tone, when it was intense enough it still gave him chills. Like it was really ice water, trickling down his back and making his hair stand up. When Dharth used that tone, he was at his most dangerous.
When Dharth used that polite inflection that was like oil sliding over ice, it meant that a normal black would have snapped by now. Though the big dragon's eyes remained a calm-whirling blueish color, K'dran could see the faintest smudges of red starting to stain the wheeling facets. And now, even his usually restless tail-tip was still, and stayed coiled possessively around K'dran's left ankle.
Juno was fast asleep and oblivious in the blackrider's arms. K'dran gently hoisted her onto his shoulder; with a sleepy grumble, the spring wrapped her tail securely about his throat and settled onto her new perch. Now K'dran had his hands free if he needed to use them -- scrabbling onto Dharth's back, for example. He was already getting little flickers of unarticulated thought from the black, strategies, and warnings to prepare K'dran. Though Dharth usually didn't bother with that sort of thing, when someone else threatened his rider's life, Dharth went into protection mode. K'dran was his rider, and no one else could even touch him.
A very brief, very rare flicker of gratude for the blacks' inborn possessiveness surfaced in K'dran's mind. That was one sure thing that he always counted on -- if K'dran was ever in real danger, Dharth would char the offender to ash. And even if the big black sometimes roughed him up, he was careful not to inflict lasting damage. He was smart enough to know that would compromise him, as well.

Honuth drew herself up, hissing balefully and turning to glance almost disdainfully back at Xai, holding her two firelizards, and staying out of the way. Dharth had his point. Just as he needed K'dran, she needed Xai. Doubtful the Black would try and behead her, for she would suffer little in the end, and he greatly. With a smug roll of her shoulders she rumbled, all the tension seeming to pour away from her in a single, fluid movement as she turned away, her tail giving an almost contemptuous flick as she padded away from Dharth and to Xai. She was better than that. Better than bickering with the fool of a Black.
But the worst was that Honuth was forced to relaize, that though she may gain the skies, Xai was unprotected in such a matter. Meaning the Magma was forced to stay and protect the rider, much though she may dislike the fact. Perhaps, but I'll not waste my time on the likes of you Dharth. There are better things to amuse myself with. She turned her head, looking back over her shoulder, with a sly smirk, her eyes slowly wheeling, the red starting to return to them, replacing the former colors that were so often connected to happiness in other dragons.
Without looking once to Xai, the Magma crouched, a rare thing for she normally order Xai on and waited impatiently for the woman. Get on now Xai, and don't drop our pets.
Xai blinked, mildly confused that Honuth had so quickly let the matter drop, with not a drop of blood shed from anyone. However, she wasn't about to complain, and with a shake of her head, carefully clambered to perch on the dragon's shoulders, wrinkling her nose and biting back a hiss of pain as her hand slid the wrong way over the Magma's shoulder, the tiny scales shredding her palm.
With Xai in place, Honuth gave a mocking bow and sprang to the air, her wings, nearly twice her body length, sweeping twice and she was high enough to glide comfortably back to the hut which they called a weyr.
Word Count: 436 Character: Xai of Honuth Notes: I figured Honuth ignoring Dharth would get a better reaction, and make for more interesting RPs in the future, than if she'd acted on her impulses and attacked. Sorry, plus I couldn't think of anything else, since the hatching is over, and there wasn't a whole lot else to keep the thread going other than a fight. O.o

Dharth let his lower jaw gape open in a dragonic grin. I am gratified that you see sense, Honuth, he said. The big black furled his loose wing, and let the prehensile tip of his tail unwind from his rider's ankle. He still didn't drop his guard a bit, until the magma took to the sky.
K'dran watched the queen take off, keeping an eye on the smudge of molten colors until the muscles in Dharth's lean haunch relaxed, signaling the end of the high-alert state. He sighed slightly and strolled away from the protected area, toward the sloping black shoulder.
"Why can't you just keep your mouth shut?" he asked, mostly rhetorically because he knew Dharth would be unrepentant for the tense standoff.
It was her fault she took insult from my words, I was only making an observation, Dharth replied, his mind-voice smug and amused. True, I did know she would react that way, but there is no proof that I said what I did specifically to provoke her.
"Yeah, right." K'dran snorted. He stepped onto Dharth's foreleg, then crouched slightly, tensing to jump. It was far enough even with the step-stool of the black's leg up to his shoulder than he needed to leap. K'dran sprang upward, grabbing a dorsal ridge and hauling himself up enough to swing his leg around. It was a workout just to mount from the ground.
Once K'dran was seated, Dharth stood, flowing sinuously onto all fours. His movements were liquid because he was trying not to disturb Juno's rest -- an unusually considerate precaution. K'dran was surprised.
As Dharth stood he stretched, arching his back and fanning his wings. They blotted out a huge patch of sunlight, spreading a huge dark shadow over the grass below. Still in a very feline-looking stretch-pose with his wings extended to their full width almost vertically, the big black was a very imposing figure. A velvety jet-black dappled with burgundy, as big as a large raven or amber, Dharth was one of the biggest dragons on Pern, and he looked quite intimidating, though he wasn't as burly as most blacks.
Then he crouched and sprang into the air, surging high enough into the air with his first downstroke to simply settle into a glide back to the weyr.
He knew Honuth probably wouldn't forget his jab, but Dharth was confident. He would keep an eye on the magma should she try any funny business. He'd sensed her realization that she was just as handicapped as he was, with needing a rider. Honuth wasn't nearly as careful with her rider, and Dharth was a crafty black.
