This is an Alternative Universe Dragon Riders of Pern game, based loosely on the books of Anne McCaffrey. There will be new colors appearing and the game is very definitely non-canon.
Death from above....
It had been about 147 turns since Lessa, F'lar and Jaxom diverted the Red Star from its path around Pern. What they could not of known was that in altering it's orbit, the Red Star would collide with a meteor, shattering the rouge planet and creating a deadly tail to the comet. That could have been a good thing, except the collision knocked the comet from its age old course, turning it on a trajectory that would see it pass dangerously close to Pern.
When the comet and its deadly trail orbited the planet a rain deadlier than thread was dropped on the surface. A mix of meteor shower and thread fall pounded the surface of the Planet for barely a turn, until the deadly fire trail was gone from the sky.
It was hardly a Pass, but the effects were catastrophic. Thread fell and devastated the land, meteors crashed and caused tidal waves and earthquakes. The land shook from deep within setting off volcanos. Fire rained down as the land shook under them. Many were killed, the Weyrs were soon inhabitable. High reaches exploded as a volcano erupted, killing all within the Weyr.
People fled to safety, Fort and Benden were both destroyed, thousands died, even the mighty dragons could not fight the fire when it fell from the sky. When it was over Pern was a smoking, stricken planet with barely a handful of dragons left. The human populace numbering a few thousand. Sadly even the faithful Fizelizards had not been seen for months, they were thought to be another victim of the comet and its deadly fall. The survivors were terrified and looked towards the last dragonriders for help and guidance.
A conclave of riders, crafters and the two Lord Holders left alive decided that the North was uninhabitable. The best thing to do for those who had faced the worst turn in Pernese history was to head to the South and begin anew.
The dragons and their riders, fifteen in all, headed on a trip to assess the South and find a place for them to settle and start building a new life for all. There was one Queen, two bronzes, two browns, four blues and six greens. That was all that was left of the mighty Dragons.
Whilst surveying the South, the Queenrider, a woman called Ris, was struck down by a strange illness. It took her four days to die, it was a nasty, painful death. When she passed her queen cried in distress and leapt between, taking the only hope of survival the dragons had.
Despair hit the remaining fourteen riders. How could they continue without a Golden Queen to offer hope of future generations?
But they knew the rest of the Pernese were relying on them, if they could bring them here and help them settle this harsh but beautiful land, maybe the people would survive. There was no sign that the deadly meteor/thread fall had even touched the South.
A site was chosen, about five miles in from the rich blue waters off the coast. A large lake was the centre point of where the new settlement would be. It took almost a turn to get the remaining survivors across, even then some did not want to leave their homeland. But finally all who had wanted to go where delivered safely. None had been lost in the transition.
They called the settlement New Fort, it was a large area, split into three, a place for the dragons and their riders, a township of houses and farms and finally an area that would house the new Healer Hall, Harper hall and halls for the other Crafts. The Pernese was a tough breed. They began to make a new life for themselves in New Fort.
The fourteen dragonriders worked hard, helping with the building, no one mentioned the fact that these were the last of the dragons. It was something that was just too painful to even think about. They hoped that if the deadly meteor should pass by again the South would be protected as it seemed to have been before.
But the south was not as perfect as they hoped. New illnesses had to be researched, including Firehead, the illness that had killed Ris. Cures and treatments had to be developed and tested. There was also occasional earth quakes as the subcontinental plates settled themselves.
Cracks appeared in cliffs, holes and caves appeared in the side of mountains that had to be explored. Things would be discovered that would give a sudden new hope to Pern. A new hope that would guarantee the future survival. A vast network of caves were revealed. Rumour had it they were built in the distant past by the ancestors.
What they would reveal would fire the hearts and hopes of all living. Man, woman, child and dragon.....
