[This template is used with direct permission from KaizerFlames and the coloring is done by Lauri] Template for the Opals colored by Mittens.
Gold:
Golds were the original queens and the only egg bearers before the mutations. They are also one of the largest dragons, ranging from 38 to 45 feet in length, with a temperament that holds true to their size. Stubborn in all they do, these dragons can be (and more often than not are) hard to control during their first flight, thus they tend to choose those of a strong, leader-like nature. Their hides shimmer, creating a beautiful metallic gold shade upon their hide that can range further from a dusty yellow to a rusty gold. Their bodies are built for stamina, with stocky builds and large wings that tend to make flights last longer, a trait that also allows them to ride an entire Fall. They usually clutch anywhere between 11-40 eggs, with usually over 20 eggs during Threadfall. They are female, and Impress only female.
Opal:
Opals are, besides Golds, the only other dragons to hold the rank of Queen within Talune. They, however, are anything but similar to their counterparts. For one, their sizes vary in a way that confuses dragonriders and dragons alike, as it is never stable. One Opal might be as large as a Gold while another can be as small as a large Brown. Their hides are aglow with numerous colors, marvelous swirls of blue, white, yellow, and even purple dancing across their sturdy, well built bodies, though they are not metallic in their sheen. Their wingspan is always that of a medium Gold's regardless of body size, and this is believed to allow them a long flight to ensure large clutches. Clutches can be anywhere between 11-40 eggs though, like a Gold's, the clutch could be larger given appropriate circumstance. Riding along with their spontaneous and unpredictable physical nature, Opals tend to Impress those of a rebellious character much like themselves as they generally dislike being told they cannot do something or should not. One should keep a close eye on Opal weyrling pairs because chances are the two will cause quite the situation if given the slightest chance. They are loving, nurturing dragons, but rather authoritative and certainly head-strong. Opals are female and Impress only heterosexual females.
Onyx:
The Weyr Kings of Talune are the great behemoth Onyxes. Such size is sure to bring about an arrogant and an I’m-better-than-you nature, right? Wrong. Their only true character flaw is a deep sense of firmly embedded pride; they don't accept help from any aside from their Mine and, even then, such is a rare occurrence. Onyxes are rational thinkers, logical in all that they do and say and, as such, they are calm under pressure and never without a plan. Unlike their hot tempered brothers the Bronzes they see no sense in arrogance or vanity, and frequently the two dragons can be seen in quarrel. It is best to keep Onyx and Bronze weyrlings separated from one another to prevent any hostility. This anger does have a source, though, and is not something just spur of the moment. Bronzes, as their weakness, envy Onyxes, for their black brothers are rarer than they, rank above them, and only participate in Queen flights, usually being the ones to catch them. Only clutches sired by an Onyx may bear an Onyx hatchling so in said clutch. Their hide colors range from a deep ebony to a steel gray, with their stocky bodies reaching the size of a large Gold at their smallest or, in some cases, surpassing them. They tend to Impress the minds of the Weyr, choosing those who think deeply and rationally as they themselves do. Onyxes are male and Impress only heterosexual males.
NOTE: These are native to Talune and, because of rank and whatnot, we don't like to share them with other Weyrs. They may only be hatched here and those hatched here remain here. As of now, Varanth is the only Onyx to have hatched and grown to adult size. (There are no records of dud Onyx eggs.) Alamayanth is the second to ever hatch and Impress.
Bronze:
Bronzes are the largest of the original males, now only surpassed by Onyxes. They are built for stamina and speed and are usually of a bulky build, ranging from 35 to 38 meters in length. Hide shades tend to be a metallic bronze color, ranging in darkness from dragon to dragon but, one thing is for certain: their attitudes are equally biased. Usually rather arrogant and vain dragons, they rarely take a moment to step out of the limelight, because that is where they are best suited. Commanding and authoritative, their natural bravery and logic makes them one of the perfect candidates for Wingleaders or even Weyrleaders, though it is always wise to keep in mind humility goes a long way. That is part of the further dispute between Onyxes and Bronzes: a Bronze never could thrive if he had to live a humble life, and that is all an Onyx radiates. A wise bit of wisdom to remember if you are bonded to a Bronze: He who reaches for the stars oft stumbles at but a straw. Keep any Bronze weyrling firmly in check, least his ambitions lead him to an unexpected and untimely death. They are male, and Impress only heterosexual males.
Mimic:
A relatively new breed of dragons, these beasts are born entirely blind and genderless with impossibly see through hides-one could literally see the pulsing heart of this dragon as well as every vein that connects back to the organ. It is impossible for an Impression to occur as soon as these dragonets hatch, because their eyes have to adjust and the lids gradually peel away from their sealed state. Once this occurs, the first clutch-mate the Mimic looks on imprints itself in its mind. The dragon's gender is decided from this, and the necessary changes in the body begin to take place almost instantly. The second thing the dragonet finds about the next dragon he/she sees, usually looking to an older dragon in the stands, decides the dragon's hide coloring or, at least some of it. The outline of the dragon, the very edges of his/her wings, tail and claw tips, and any location where a joint is, takes that coloring the instant the color is registered. The eyes, too, take this shade, and never swirl another hue. The remainder of the beast's hide is still frighteningly see through, and will remain so for the rest of its life. Only then, once gender and hide color has been decided, does the creature look to his/her Impressing siblings, watching each choose their Mine before looking over the candidates and finding the most stable of the group. Sexual preference plays no part in Impression, nor does gender. Once Impression occurs, the relatively quiet and intelligent beast shows its true colors: Mimics are terrible to bond with unless one is very strong of will: those chosen for queen and king candidates usually are taken by Mimics when no queen is present in the clutch. These dragons are impossibly possessive, jealous and, as such, quite violent when need be. With a fierce sense of thought that when something is its, that something has little chance of ever being allowed away from the Mimic's sight. Perhaps this could be applied to the Weyr as a whole to make them great defenders? Females to choose Mimics to fly or males willing to catch Mimics are indeed brave individuals, because they wont ever be able to escape this dragon's impossible, irrational tyranny. They grow to the size of an Onyx, and will never fly a queen. But, that won't stop them from trying, now will it? It is unknown if females may clutch.
NOTE: Not obtainable through anything but hatching. When their hides take on that adopted hue, it is possible for a small twinge of the other dragons personality to seep in as well. I.E flirty from a Green, Calm from a Blue, Intelligence from an Onyx, etc.
Brown:
Browns are slightly smaller than Bronzes, though some do grow to the size of small ones, and range anywhere from 30 to 35 feet in length, usually having a rather wide wingspan. Hides vary from a light, soil brown to a deep, chocolate brown, with many variations in between, of course. The third largest males in the Weyr, barring the pending information of the recent Mimic mutations, Browns tend to stay away from the high pedestal of the other males and are very down-to-earth, quite serious about life itself and everything involved in it. They see things in the future sense, and make devoted and loving weyrmates for their loyalty is beyond compare as is their uncanny ability to always have just the right advice to cheer anyone up. They usually Impress those who have the exact same nature as they do, and they and their riders make excellent wingseconds for a Weyr because of their calm and collected attitude. They don't participate in Queen flights as it is forbidden, but that does not stop the flirtatious Browns from chasing after any other lovely female. For all their wit and cunning, any Brown would stumble head over heels through broken glass for a Silver’s affections. Male only, heterosexual and bisexual male, a rare case of homosexual women.
Silver:
Silvers are the lovely counterparts to Browns, ranking neither above nor below them but right at equal. As such they may reach the size of a healthy Brown, with a wingspan to match, though a Silver‘s wings tend to, for some reason, be thicker than a Brown’s. Silver hides range from an ash color to a dark gray, and though they are not naturally metallic, they are never without the distinct sheen a fresh bath provides. You see, Silvers take great care to always look presentable to their Weyrleaders and visiting riders, though they are by no means obsessed with their appearance. Generally patient and understanding, it is proven impossible to anger a Silver, as their gentle temperament does not allow them to be anything but the perfect doting mother. Or, they would be if they could clutch. So far, no Silver has denied firestone, and the hidden thought that they may clutch is always lingering about. They adore being the ’caretakers’ of the Weyr and one often has to watch a Silver to make sure she has not taken on too many tasks because they often feel they must pick up the slack where others fail to. Their soft spoken nature draws the protective side of Browns and their riders in--a Silver shares all her traits with her chosen rider--and they love nothing more than to stroke their big Brown’s ego and tell him he is the greatest thing on Pern. They are female, and Impress mainly heterosexual and bisexual females.
Blue:
Blues can be from 25 to 30 feet in length, and their body build varies from thin and lithe to almost as stocky as a Brown. This sort of versatility makes them very good dragons in many different areas of threadfighting. Blues tend to be rather mellow creatures, but their personalities vary quite a bit. They tend to be quite emphatic, picking up on emotions and seeming to feed off them, and tend to be rather lighthearted and humble. This makes them good weyrmates with Greens, because they enjoy the strong emotions that the females usually have. This also makes them very good Search dragons. They love seeking to prove that they are worth their weight in firestone, and it's important to watch this dynamic, risk taking dragon for signs of strain because, chances are, he'll try to hide it while he's busy out-doing the larger dragons. This is the main reason that Blues are forbidden to chase queens. Blues Impress to males most of the time but there have been female Blue riders as well as the rare cases of female Blues. Open sexualities, as Blues tend to not discriminate.
Red (Crimson/Scarlet):
Reds come in both genders that each will Impress to either gender and sexuality preference respectively. The male Reds are known as Crimsons while the females are affectionately deemed Scarlets, though both fall under the main title of "Red". They are infertile as their Green sisters, will rise as often if not more so than they do, and may reach the size of a large Green or small Blue. A Red's hide color is strictly biased to gender, something odd of the dragon world. Males come in only one shade of deep blood red, while females have a slightly higher choice from two shades; a bright, vibrant red and a paler, almost pink, red. All Reds usually make both excellent finders of firelizards and Hold/Weyr watchriders, for the have an uncanny quickness of the eye and extreme tolerance level which makes them very stable fliers to have in any given wing. Their lithe agile build also allows for them to make excellent messenger dragons over short distances where betweening is not needed, or simply to help in Weyrling training lessons to demonstrate aerial tactics. The attitudes between both genders remains the only true difference, aside from hide shade, between the two. Crimsons are cautious yet oddly impulsive, and tend to Impress those of a curious nature that plays their rash sides. On the other hand, Scarlets are cheerful and playful. They do have the tendency to be somber, shy and, sometimes on a bad day, withdrawn. They typically Impress those of an outgoing, hyper nature to compensate and help uplift them from their rare gloomy days. Regardless, one thing is for certain; it is impossible to take most Reds seriously because they are always in to jokes and having a good laugh and making anyone's day significantly better.
Green:
Greens can be from 20 to 25 feet in length, and are generally quite agile and lithe. They Impress upon males and females equally, but it is advised to have females on the sands for Greens because women seem to be able to handle their Greens' whirlwind emotions better than most men would, thus making more stable Greenriders. Greens run on a here-and-now state of mind, and are passionate and run by their feelings. Of course they don't have the intelligence and foresight of the larger colors, but they go by their gut feeling, which does oftentimes prove to be right. While not always the irate creatures many make them out to be, they go proddy often, which gives them the illusion that they are almost always irritable, wily, and hotheaded. Greens are known to be the flirts of the Weyr, and can rise anywhere from once a month to once every two months. They are sterile whether they chew firestone or not.
